Covfefe-19 The 10th Part: Might As Well Reject No Shirt, No Shoes While You're At It

Re: Covfefe-19 The 10th Part: Might As Well Reject No Shirt, No Shoes While You're At

Ok, so, why are more than 10 people allowed inside a Target/Walmart? Or other retail spot?

Look, I'm not a church-goer. I'm not religious (and I hate saying this, but I'm "spiritual" I believe in God overall).

Hold the churches/mosques/temples to the same rules, I'm good with that.
Because, as I posted in the first comment- those people are moving. They are not parked in one space. And, for the most part, they are probably not singing or talking constantly. I am a church goer. Going to the store is not the same situation as going to church unless you are going to the church of the long run (running group in Boston). There was a reason the CDC singled out churches for specific recommendations and it wasn't because they are atheists. It is because they have specific data and evidence showing that church causes spread. There are multiple documented instances where church was the focal point. No one has to like it but facts are facts. It is simplistic to make a generalization simply because it is a place people go.

So, I will refer to my patio post. They are not moving. They are sitting down, eating and drinking and conversing. Go with those rules.

If the church is outside, maybe. But seems unlikely.

You can find a lot of evidence about indoor spread vs outdoor

I thought of that, and look at many churches' ceilings/space. It's monstrous in area. For the smaller churches (like the corner church in a rural small town, I get that). But something like a Cathedral that has 50-60 foot vaulted ceilings, tons of space besides seating? Adjust the rules.

Honestly, we're all kinda making up things as we go along, so make up these rules, also. *shrug*

Definitely not unique to Bulgaria, but:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/10/29/sports/soccer/bulgaria-uefa-racism.amp.html

I did go to one game there. The team in my friends city did have one player from Africa and my friend mentioned the racist taunts from opposing fans (and the opposing fans at this stadium have to sit in a cage that separates them on all sides from the other sections and goes over the top of the section and are surrounded by police).
Not to derail this thread but, it happens elsewhere.

Modify the rules. 30 minute services. Something like that. I knew about the choirs/loud voice projecting droplets.

You don’t edit a church service. Jeez.

I grew up Roman Catholic. Have attended the FULL wedding services, and attended the "edited" ones. Gimme the latter. ;)

Re: Covfefe-19 The 10th Part: Might As Well Reject No Shirt, No Shoes While You're At

There is no way an Episcopalian service can be edited. And at my church, everyone likes to hug 3 or 4 times before we leave. We stand in close quarters at coffee hour, where we linger for 45 minutes before taking off.

And while I'm missing that community, we're doing our best.

The Minnesota Good-bye. ;)

Things are gonna have to change if people want to gather. I don't like it but it is necessary.

We are Israel’s best friend

“ Researchers mapped the spread of coronavirus by decoding genomic sequences of virus strains and determined that the majority of Israel’s cases, over 70 percent, originated in the United States.”

To the alt-right that's a feature, not a bug (pardon the pun).

F-ck yes, this. The full bore (!) Catholic service is Wagner without the beauty. Or humor. No thanks.

No, we’re not. We’re using science and fact to establish data-based guidelines.

For years, growing up, the full service and the wedding reception "only" being 300-400 people minimum...yep. That's what my experience has been.

Re: Covfefe-19 The 10th Part: Might As Well Reject No Shirt, No Shoes While You're At

I do love how somehow your anecdotal evidence is more accurate and relevant the everyone else's. Is that a trait I get in my 50s? ;)

Maybe you wouldnt get challenged on your assertions so much if you didnt always speak in absolutes. You would probably be right more often as well ;) :p :D

Oh FFS, absolutes are shorthand for "In my opinion" and "In my experience." Obviously, every statement that is not a tautological fact has these things implicitly attached to it.

Has that really been the problem? That when I say "I lied..." when I'm saying "I was mistaken, ..." you frickin' hayseeds actually think that means I lied to you?

No, we’re not. We’re using science and fact to establish data-based guidelines.

Masks are useless. Kinda. But required now. 5'9" is bad, but 6'1" is okay. Plus 15 minutes. We think. It's on material goods. But, maybe not as strong as we thought.

We're adapting to very limited knowledge.

Except masks aren’t useless.

No, the 6’-1” thing is a profoundly ignorant republican meme. Which you’ve apparently swallowed almost back the rod and reel.

Timing is about viral load and statistical chance of infection. Just like almost all of these things which Fark Independents seem really reluctant to even attempt to understand.

Survival on various materials and the changes in this data is based on evolving research.

THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD NECESSARILY REQUIRES CHANGES AND REVISIONS.

I want to ****ing staple that to the forehead of every republican.

https://yandoo.wordpress.com/2013/12/10/perfect-solution-fallacy/

The Perfect Solution Fallacy (also known as the ‘Nirvana Fallacy‘) is a false dichotomy that occurs when an argument assumes that a perfect solution to a problem exists; and that a proposed solution should be rejected because some part of the problem would still exist after it were implemented. In other words, that a course of action should be rejected because it is not perfect, even though it is the best option available.

This fallacy is an example of black and white thinking, in which a person fails to see the complex interplay between multiple component elements of a situation or problem, and as a result, reduces complex problems to a pair of binary extremes.
