To be fair, all of Eastern Europe is backward, homophobic, racist, and misogynistic (I say this as 50% Slavic). The Slavic countries (plus Poland) are Europe's red states. Besides Poland the worst are Russia, Hungary, and Slovakia. Ukraine is a mess but supposedly even the "good guys" there are vicious homophobes and sexists. I've heard Slovenia is bad but who notices?

Basically, that region is living in the early 20th century when it comes to gender and race. They're every bit as stupid and regressive as the RNC.

In some fairness, they spent 50 years not allowed to much of any religion, so when they got the chance they jumped back in hard; Poland especially. Hopefully give them a couple generations and they'll be back to the rest of Europe.

From what I see here in the Chicago area from those that are "fresh off the boat", there are a significant number that are outright racist/sexist/homophobic.

This reminds me of story a right winger friend of mine in NYC told me. He said even Jamaicans think the Eastern Europeans who have moved into Brooklyn are "too sexist," and a Jamaican will dangle his wife out of a fifth floor window if she complains about his drinking or doesn't have dinner ready.

The Totem Pole of American Stupidity seems to currently have Central Africans, Eastern Europeans, and the perpetual favorite Southerners jockeying for top position.

Arabs suck too but there aren't enough of them to matter. And there are tons of Iranians but they're actually quite civilized.

I have neither met nor heard from an American conservative in the last decade. Reactionaries and fascists, sure. But Winston Churchill is not walking through that door. Hell, Robert A. Sarah Palin is now in the upper tenth of intelligence and ethics among Republicans. They have gone full Mussoleotard.

Maybe travel outside your bubble man. They arent loud and obnoxious but they are there. I personally know 3 who are lifelong GOPers who left the party because of how ridiculous they became on the far right issues. None of them are religious which helps.

The earlier discussion seemed to imply that Europeans were surprised to see that Americans with those traits exist. As someone who has spent about three years living in Europe...absolutely way more non conservatives travel there. Not even close.

Posted this response more than a few times- Darwin only works if you leave things be. The morans are not going to kill themselves. They are going to excel at being vectors and then, because we are ethically and legally bound to treat them, we are going to waste a load of resources to keep them alive so they can reproduce and teach their offspring to be equally stupid. It used to be that stupid got you killed. Now it puts a big burden on society with not much consequence.

I have some faith in people, pun intended. I guess, why is it ok for the stores to have different guidelines? NOTE: I am not a church-goer. Only weddings and funerals for the last (mumble mumble) years.

Surprised no one else answered this. Answer is pretty simple. most people go into a store, get what they need and get out. Even if they are browsing they are still moving about. Church people sit/stand in one place for a lot longer than 15 minutes. Some of these Fundie churches have services that last well past 1.5 hours.

If they do any sort of singing*/ praying out loud they are loading the air with aerosolized virus. You would hope they would require people to mask but I have already seen a number of them who are on the extreme spectrum of foolish- discouraging masks. Even if you are all masked that is 'safer' not safe. Think safer sex instead of safe sex. It only takes one... The more exposure you have the higher risk your immune system isn't going to handle it. If you walk by someone in the market or stand for a few minutes near them that isn't going to hold a candle to standing for an hour in an enclosed space. Some of the biggest ourbreaks so far have had a church or choir be the focal event.

*Uncle les got it from a choir- he and another person were hospitalized, 5-6 more were very sick but not hospitalized. I think that was out of about 25. And that is only those he knows about. I did go to one game there. The team in my friends city did have one player from Africa and my friend mentioned the racist taunts from opposing fans (and the opposing fans at this stadium have to sit in a cage that separates them on all sides from the other sections and goes over the top of the section and are surrounded by police).

Look, I'm not a church-goer. I'm not religious (and I hate saying this, but I'm "spiritual" I believe in God overall).
