I was going to say, people have literally written books about the incident. I thought that might be excessive for a message board.

My point was that we shouldn’t be too hasty in our criticism of law enforcement when they make a decision to not publicly confront people who are likely armed, but in the judgment of law enforcement, are not an immediate threat. We have a lot of examples where law enforcement made a different decision and it went badly wrong.

Thats great, but that isnt what is happening here and you know it. The Sheriffs arent doing this because they know their people, they are doing it because they think they have the power to defy people who outrank them and actually know more than they do.

Did we really "flatten the curve" and the first wave is done, and the second wave (spreading) about to begin?

Or is that first wave still going, we're just finding out about other cases now?

We didnt flatten the curve. The numbers show a plateau but that is misleading because:

A) We cant test everyone

B) NY/NJ are falling which is artificially pulling down the average

Flattening the curve was about protecting the hospitals by extending out when people needed care so it wasnt all at once. It was never going to end the wave and we are certainly NOT out of the first wave yet. We would have been if people had followed the rules and if the GOP hadnt opened up early.

When Shelter in Place started to become a thing I swear one of the scenarios (not a good one) was exactly what is happening now. Half *** a shutdown and then reopen too quickly and it no longer is just massive waves...it is rolling waves where every few weeks you will get new blooms...which cause more partial shutdowns...which then end and lead to more blooms.

And the scary thing is...we dont know enough information to fight any of this. For all we know tomorrow a new symptom could pop up and by then it is too late. The GOP and some like-minded idiots are betting that most of the population already had it so opening up wont put more at risk. There is no chance that is the case. The death numbers would be insane for that to be the case even if you assume the mortality is closer to the flu than it is showing right now. Even worse, the sports fandom morons dont even assume that, they just figure since most sports fans, the workers and the teams are all young enough that they wont be risking much. (college football fans are high up on this list cause 20 year olds arent affected...tell that to my student who is back in the hospital) They dont even care that those athletes can still spread it to their friends and family (who can also spread it) that is all the sacrifice they should make so a bunch of sad sacks can yell at their TV or get fall down drunk at the game.

There was a scenario where America could be opening up fully June 1 and not be in danger. The problem is Americans are too big of whiny *****es to actually do what needed to be done. They cant even be asked to wear a mask without them crying like a 2 year old who didnt get ice cream after dinner. Our numbers are no better than a month ago, and neither is our capacity to help or our knowledge of the virus. We basically just ignored the problem. And like the college student who tries to cram a semester of biology studies into one night before the Final...the results most likely arent going to be pretty. But one whole part of the political spectrum will have moved on, not caring unless it kills someone they love.

With states opening up again, this has come to the top of the headlines. At the start of all this, it was spreading quickly. That part was obvious.

Testing was the most important thing when this started off, so that it could have been tracked and stopped. That was stated and obvious then.

Testing is the most important thing when it comes to opening back up so that we know we are ready or are we too early. If that's not obvious now, I don't know what to tell you. I know with high certainty that my company plans on testing to allow all of the company back into buildings- until then, it won't be.

And I'm tired of you trying to back track on subjects that we've been wanting since Jan. Which means you are earning the spewing.

The real issue right now is that the idiot in the white house who is supposed to be leading just wants to bury bad news instead of actually fixing it. He's actively trying to prevent testing- which means my company will not be fully back to work for a long time.

It's pretty clear to me that for normal people who want to work, the work of the guy who is supposed to lead us is going to do more damage than if he took it seriously and actually got 1million tests a day.

One question I asked over and over again during the 2015-16 election cycle was whether or not the election of trump would lead first to World War III or the Civil War II. I'm now pretty sure now I know the answer.

There are going to be pitched battles between those of us who know why people are dying and how we could have better protected each other and the idiot, mouth breathing MAGAs who will not accept that they are almost entirely to blame for the hell that is preparing to befall this nation. The MAGAs are going to pivot from protesting the lockdown to protesting the fact that hundreds of thousands of their own will be dead or dying. The dying we've seen over the last 8 weeks has happened at a time when most of the nation was under at least some form of a lock down. What is it going to be like when almost none of it is? 90,000 in twelve weeks will look mild compared to a hundred thousand in just a month.

There are other countries out there doing poorly but what might keep rebellion from spreading in those places is it is either not in their nature (Sweden?) or the vast majority of the populace has already been put down by dictators and authoritarian leadership. That is not the situation here. Anyone who thinks trump will draw the line at "there are fine people on both sides" is in for a rude awakening. At some point if we go into lockdowns again he will be encouraging protesters to "take back" their capitols using any means necessary, and hundreds or thousands of armed MAGAs will believe they have the green light.

There are plenty of people who posted on this forum in 2016 that trump posed an existential threat to the future of this country. We were right.

How do you know it's not spreading as quickly? The positive results number is artificially limited by the numbers of tests. What are we testing, 300,000 a day now? And coming up with ~25,000 positives. What if we were testing 400,000? 500,000? Would we be getting more positives? How many more? A lot, or just a few?

That's what testing more could tell us. But we can't do that. Cause.........'Murica!!!

And if the rate actually is slowing, it's because it's moved from the densely packed urban populations, to the wider spaced rural sections of the country, where the jump from person to person isn't so easy. But that doesn't mean there's fewer areas where the virus is present. It just takes a longer time to infect and incubate.
