Re: Covfefe 19: now in 3D

Canada closes border to non North Americans, permanent residents and diplomats. International flights only to MTL, TOR, CGY, VAN

Good thing we still have our escape route! Then again, instead of finding a new country, it's so much easier to vote for one.

Russia is closing its borders to foreigners until May 1. Measure comes into force on March 18.

Germany finally closes its borders

Poland thinks, "Wait? That was an option?"

Idris Elba positive.

This is neat! per @michalnaka

An Italian hospital ran out of ICU valves. A local biz brought a 3D printer to the hospital, redesigned & produced the valves in a few hours.

“At the time of writing, 10 patients are accompanied in breathing by a machine that uses a 3D printed valve.”

That's amazing. Embarrassing that it requires breaking copyright law to save lives, but wow.

I do wonder about chemical leakage from being used (is 3D filament food/health grade?), but at this point it saved lives.

Re: Covfefe 19: now in 3D

I think DeWine in Ohio was the first to publicly announce this, yesterday in the early afternoon, and Ohio's governor is hardly blue. He claims at least to be strictly following the advice of medical doctors and epidemiologists as he goes about what decisions to make.

Honestly I think he has been doing a great job all things considered. Living in Ohio for the last 5 years, I cannot think of many times I have approved of how this state has handled things. I fully support how aggressive he has been and hope he continues to push, as the public cannot be trusted to do this without strong nudging.

I have heard from other people -- who I consider informed and reliable -- that if you have or suspect you have Covid-19 that you should avoid NSAID types of fever/pain medication, such as aspirin, and or ibuprofen (Advil is a common brand) or naproxen (Aleve). Use of acetaminophen (Tylonol) may be recommended instead. If possible can one of our professionals speak a little about this?

I think too early to tell. We were discussing this at work today and you can basically have 4 people in the room and 6 opinions. Our hospital has some (probably the most in the state), but not enough, experience with this right now for me to give you anecdotal evidence.

It comes down to what you are affecting in the complex physiologic pathways and why people die. We know how NSAIDs (and corticosteroids) affect the general pathway but no great idea how that fits in with Covid-19. I could speculate further but from the pubmed search I have been doing about every time a patient no-shows, there isn't anything solid and I am more likely to be wrong than right.

I wouldn't worry too much about it unless 1. your doctor, who knows your health risks/etc tells you something specific and/or 2. more peer reviewed information is presented.

At this point, does it matter? At this point, it's major surgery with a pen knife washed in vodka time.

Re: Covfefe 19: now in 3D

Seconded.

All in favor?

Real estate is dirt cheap. There's a beautiful 3-bedroom just over the border that is on the market for $30K. There are houses all over New Brunswick and Nova Scotia that have very low prices. Vancouver, not so much.
