I'm quite surprised by that. Not just because I'm sure the penalties are insane, but because under their legal system I imagine you can rape any woman you like as long as you give her brother a goat.

My company at least thought of this, made significant upgrades and updates to make sure the VPNs and servers will handle it. We'll see how it works out.

I guess I'll just have to get 9-10 hours of work done in the one to two hours he'll nap. Of course, whenever I'm counting on him nappping, he doesn't.

Can’t remember who, and it doesn’t matter, but someone had commented that MN Dept of healths gentle note two weeks ago for people to start prepping for disruption to daily life was not really doing much. I’d argue now that it was exactly the right thing to say a few weeks ago. If only people weren’t so stupid about this, though....

I use the following which is easier in a pinch. It's not 100% accurate but would get you close enough:

(°C * 2) + 32 = °F

(°F - 32) / 2 = °C

The not so underground sex trade in UAE is one of its more sordid secrets.

Go to any hotel bar on a non-weekend night as a guy sitting alone, and you will be amazed how many approaches you get, right out in the open. And, it's not like any of the bar, security, and hotel workers care -- they are all expats too, and probably getting "tips" to look the other way.

EDIT: I should note it depends which Emirate you are in. Dubai is the most "liberal." Some, barely allow drinking, never mind the other "stuff."

I never ran into any prostitutes although I knew they were around, but a lot of Filipinos move there to be au paires (sp?), nannies, entertainers, cosmeticians, servers, etc. And in some cases it's not uncommon for them to be raped and when it happens it can be extremely devastating beyond the trauma of you know, having some a-hole force himself on you. :mad:

I believe it. This is true of every nice bar in every city in the world, after midnight.

The nicer the bar, the prettier (and younger) the approacher, and the better the line. In an upscale NYC or SF bar the hookers have graduate degrees.

I suspect the underground economy is 80% of the global economy between 12 and 5 a.m.

A month ago I felt like a doomsday prepping idiot. I kept thinking, it’s not going to be the virus, it’s going to be the panic.

I feel like a ****ing genius now.

The shelves look nothing like that here (yet), but we did a bit of stocking up yesterday from our version of Costco. We have 10 large containers (similar to water coolers at your office, I don't know why I don't know the volume in them :)), and grabbed some canned vegetables, ramen, vitamins, TP, some masks, etc. Nothing (aside from the masks) we wouldn't use anyway so if things don't go bonkers here nothing will go to waste.

That's always my rough calculator when watching European cycling and they talk about temps.
