I hope all these morons hogging all the cleaning supplies and TP are also stocking up on condoms as I don’t want any of them reproducing

Re: Covfefe-19 2020 part the second: Wash Your Hands

I don't think simply looking at an overall death rate provides any value. Specific death rates based on age and age w/ other health problems like diabetes provide the most value.

Italy is one of if not the oldest country by population in the world so their death rate will presumably be higher.

Re: Covfefe-19 2020 part the second: Wash Your Hands

Japan would either be close or surpass Italy in terms of elderly pop, and since they’re one of the infection centers that will be an interesting stat to watch. However they may have taken steps earlier to try and stop the spread

Japan does have a slight advantage as it is an island. More control over people coming in/coming out.

Posted this quite a few times but will post again- the highest predictor of death rate is the ability of the healthcare system to accommodate the number of people who are seriously ill. When there are lots of sick people there aren't enough staff, ventilators, quarantine beds to go around. Yes you are at higher risk for the other things but if there are no ventilators then it don't matter how old you if you need one and it isn't available.

From a former official in the Department of Homeland Security in an article in The Atlantic:

"A threat as dire as the new coronavirus exposes the weaknesses in our society and our politics. If Americans could seek testing and care without worrying about co-pays or surprise bills, and if everyone who showed symptoms had paid sick leave, the United States could more easily slow the spread of COVID-19. But a crisis finds a nation as it is, not as its citizens wish it to be."

Sounds like Socialism. I've been told that's bad. Better to die of a virus (or diabetes or insert illness here) than have Walmart, Amazon and GE pay taxes.

Re: Covfefe-19 2020 part the second: Wash Your Hands

Mookie cackling at all the crazy peeps who want the media to stop sensationalizing the Wuhan virus. may start a crusade to post "stop being so triggered" to all these snowflakes :p we can get their minds off the virus and onto something important then :D

"i'm not triggered, you're triggered"
"no i'm not triggered, your triggered"
"not only are you triggered, but you kan't spell and have bad grammer"

;)

You go to war with the army you have, not the army you wish you had.

Amazing. And still no republicans have decided that someone needs to be an adult here

Well, they are starting to put themselves in time out.....

(Sorry, I couldn't help myself)

And in other happy news- a few of my Trumper friends have come over the the dark side. They were deluded that he needed to stay in because of business and economy* smahts (I did say deluded right?) but they have their eyes wide open about this and they are NOT happy.

My messenger feed was a hot mess this morning. Messages from a bunch of people asking if their old people should cancel plans to come visit, should they cancel plans that include old people to travel across the country, etc. SHould never posted on FB with a bunch of informational links in the comments. Now I am the expert. And I told them all old people should not be flying. Period. Until the gubmint gets their head outta their a55 or until it is so widespread it doesn't matter where you are.

* woke up to the Yahoo update that Stock Future trading was suspended overnight and the market is not happy this AM. Shocker.

I can't tell if that's satire or not.
