But Disney is banking on people mainlining nostalgia like it was heroin. Actually, most of Hollywood is with all these remakes, reboots and reimaginings. And it seems to be working out pretty well for them and their bank accounts.

Yes, I'd think most adults have long ago realized that. The kids, however, drink it in and go full boat on the toys that they see on TV.

Tangential to this, I grew up with a guy who recreated the Star Wars movies when we were in middle school, using the various toys from all of the movies. He did it all using stop-action animation of the toys. His love of this type of animation continued, and he started doing some parody shorts. Eventually, he moved to California after college and got involved with the right people to ultimately become one of the Robot Chicken creators.

I can still watch Duck Tales and Looney Tunes and enjoy them.

DuckTales does have an overarching storyline, so that helps it. But even a single episode stands up for me.

Not sure about other cartoons, like Voltron (cars) however.

Robotech: Macross Saga holds up to what I remember, but it was also originally an anime show from Japan intended for tweens and up. Funimation just altered a few bits here and there to make it available to kids of all ages over here. I got it on DVD a few years ago, and watched it over a few weeks, and most of it was still good.

Robotech had 3 sagas? Is that right? They were all good, Macross was the best IIRC. But, I hated the ending.

I don't recall all of the sagas, just the first one that was great, and then the second one that I don't remember liking as a kid.

Those are different. I could watch Old Looney Tunes for days...same with old Hanna Barbara cartoons. The stuff from the 80s/90s though just doesnt hold up the same way.

Voltron cars sucked. Voltron Lions ruled! Neither is good anymore ;)

I would add Tom & Jerry - at least the originals. What was the series with Mr. Peabody, the two Indians, etc.?

I would like to go back and watch Johnny Quest and Star Blazers some day to see.

That was all part of Rocky & Bullwinkle.

The trails at the mountain where I skied as a kid were all named after characters in that show. The chairlift is the Wayback Machine.

I can watch Rocko's Modern Life, Ren & Stimpy, Doug, Rugrats all day.

One thing I hated is when Nick made the Rugrats pre-teens.

My kids were never huge into 'cartoons' although I know they went through phases of:

Thomas the Tank Engine
Cars
Tom & Jerry
Spongebob (this one probably lasted the longest)
Adventure Time (at least I think that's what it's called)
Teen Titans
Kid scientist with twin sisters
The Fairly Oddparents

Thank goodness they recognized even at a young age that Caillou was a complete waste of time. Was disappointed they never were into Sesame Street as I wanted to see if it held up for me. :p

My nephew was obsessed with Caillou and Thomas. I was forced to watch whenever he visited. Caillou was a waste of time and Thomas was even worse. It's a propaganda tool to prepare kids to be "useful" to their corporate betters, and when they are no longer useful they are obsolete. Fortunately I think my nephew rejected that message.

Agreed. Not every episode will click. I don’t expect a 30-year-old children’s show to do that. But there are some good ones. Like the episode with multiplying coins.

Is there any way to stream CBS shows without paying for their stupid "All Access" package? I want to watch Survivor this season (shut it, Kepler, I know your trashy TV tastes :p ;) ) but I'm not interested in signing up to get behind their stupid pay-wall.

I unfortunately assume they're my only choice though? Kinda stupid I can't even use my TV provider to get limited access.

Checked my Comcast On Demand, the episode was there.


But, I was looking through what CBS was offering in their streaming, and holy wow is it a whole lot of nothing. I figured they would have all of their old catalogue available, but was disappointed the only offered some episodes of old programming.
