Cops 8: I Am Out Of Here...

Re: Cops 8: I Am Out Of Here...

I'm not trying to be a d-ck either. I'm fine with our disagreement and I get that some others will latch on to the ad hom stuff because they aren't capable of debating on facts. AFAIC, none of our opinions carries any weight. The people in the community, and the cops, will decide what happens and what it means. Whether you're watching on a teevee 5 miles away or 5,000, you're watching on a teevee.

Alright we are cool :)

Re: Cops 8: I Am Out Of Here...

Definitely. They are afraid (probably with good reason) that with darkness comes looting and arson, so they are emptying the streets with crowd control and whoever is left after nightfall is going to be assumed to be a rioter and rounded up.

That would be my guess as well.

FWIW it doesnt seem like many were arrested just forced out of the area. Protesters being smart not fighting just breaking up and moving on. If we seen anything big happen it will be an organized group outside of the people protesting right now.

Re: Cops 8: I Am Out Of Here...

Watching WGN to see whats going on downtown Chicago.

Former police superintendent Garry McCarthy is being interviewed, spouting Anti-Fa conspiracy and WGN is just shutting him down.

Re: Cops 8: I Am Out Of Here...

Well it worked. One half completely dispersed and the other half went back towards the 3rd precinct. Cops moving on to the next target near 35W.

The guy on Unicorn Riot last night made the point that it's an air bubble -- push it down here and it has to go somewhere, so it pops up somewhere else. Unless they keep subdividing and subdividing and then actually start sweeping people up the people will coalesce someplace else, except now they'll be scared and angry and there will be injuries to take revenge for.

BTW, per MSNBC they are talking about how in Miami the protesters did provoke the cops, and they are saying the police basically did what they had to do to protect themselves and it was justified, so I think they are being pretty even-handed. But in any case you don't even need to listen to the hairdo narrative -- you can just watch the images.

That seems to be what they are doing. The added numbers allow them to split after they break the group up. Divide and conquer.

Part of the problem with the protests being decentralized is that everyone the news media will interview will be either:

1) a politician, spinning for their interests,

2) LEO leaders, demonizing the protesters and white-washing the cops, or

3) a prominent local which means property interests which means f-ck their rights I gotta protect my sh-t.

Authoritarian structures always have a hierarchy. Popular movements are fluid. The media machine is built for the former and can't understand the latter so even if they were trying to be fair they couldn't be. So we get one POV, 24/7/365, all our lives, with commercial breaks.

The one thing to remind ourselves of is that we won't know the truth of a lot of this tonight, tomorrow, or next week. Fast breaking stories and to make it worse, this story is being repeated in dozens of cities simultaneously.

I will say I find it difficult to comprehend that most of the peaceful protesters are local, but most of the mischief makers are travelers. Some? Sure. Most? No way. Chicago sends the bad eggs to Minneapolis? Who is left then in Chicago to turn things to violence? When I saw all those things getting violent in Los Angeles earlier I am willing to bet the cops were not assaulting a bunch of people from Minnesota.

I know that Handy saw interviews by local reporters, and certainly there were people who came from afar. But I read an article earlier in some Gannet paper or another that despite what was said by Minnesota authorities about the majority of those arrested being from out of state that may not have been entirely true. It turns out that most were not only from Minnesota, most were from the Twin Cities area.

Re: Cops 8: I Am Out Of Here...

Madison WI channels now carrying live reports from Madison. Apparently they had a very peaceful protest earlier, but later in the day things took a turn for the worse. Not a huge amount of violence but some windows broken, maybe a car overturned. No curfew yet, but mayor says that circumstances might make that change.

I think you made the point that yesterday they made a policy about curfew but didn't have the numbers to enforce it. So, tonight, they tripled their numbers to gain critical mass.

Of course, this could escalate -- if an invader puts triple strength in your neighborhood, you may quadruple your position to resist them.

Re: Cops 8: I Am Out Of Here...

Grand Rapids.... this is hard to watch. You know that scene in Boondock Saints where Il Duce lifts up that woman's head and tells her to pay attention? That's it.

They've broken out the windows in the SOS office and are attempting to set it on fire.

The peaceful protesters went home around 8, 8:30. It started as a silent protest against police brutality at 6 PM. Per the live videos I've seen, there are a few white agitators in the crowd.
