Cops 5: Barney Fife, Now in Real Life!

Re: Cops 5: Barney Fife, Now in Real Life!

Law enforcement has always asked for more, bigger and better equipment. In fact, tell me any person or group that competes with another group that doesn't make that request. Business managers push their bosses/owners for better equipment and facilities. College coaches want better stadiums and practice facilities.

Those that control the purse strings are always in that tug of war with those who want more.

Right but the others' requests are a bit more justifiable.

Re: Cops 5: Barney Fife, Now in Real Life!

Do these officers understand how bad it looks that they're protesting a man's simple action of taking a knee during the national anthem because he's protesting the fact that the Thin Blue Line has stood strong in protecting what appears to be a near constant killing of innocent people, usually minority people? From this otherwise supporter of LEOs, they need to step back and take stock of the fact that they're condoning manslaughter when it's "one of them" that's doing the killing.

I think we've gone far beyond the point where we can expect the police to "police" themselves. They have degenerated far beyond where taking a step back and taking stock will lead to substantial and positive change in their culture. They look at the same things plenty of other people look at and see something completely different, an alternate reality, alternate facts.

While I can appreciate the fact you refer to yourself as an "otherwise supporter of LEOs" I think that is where too many otherwise well meaning people are missing the point. In 2017, this is Law enforcement. What we see on a near daily basis IS the state of law enforcement in 2017. How can you be a supporter when, in your words, there "appears to be a near constant killing of innocent people?" This reminds me of people who feel the need to "support the troops" yet they decry everything the military is doing. Is it to feel good about about your own conflicted feelings? The military is made up entirely of people who volunteer. They volunteer to carry out the missions so many find misguided at best and reprehensible at worst. That's like saying you don't condone bank robbery but you do support the bank robbers. Our law enforcement system is off the rails. We need to hit the re-set button on it and the only cops I can support are the ones who are willing to shine a light on the problems and say "get rid of the bad cops or get rid of me."

There is no reason to assume they have "degenerated." The behaviors being captured on cell phones are the behaviors minorities have complained about for a hundred years. White people just didn't know or didn't believe them before.

This is the way some percentage of cops have always behaved. And, unfortunately, it seems like the majority of other cops are willing to lie for them to save the reputation of the entire LEO community.

Give a hundred men bats and somewhere around ten of them are going to use those bats to bash skulls in because that's just the way they are. And then they go home and bash their sons around, and their sons grow up to bash their sons around... the glorious ballet of the authoritarian personality.

I will say I find the cops protesting protests are idiots, but I also find kneeling during the anthem utterly meaningless. Whatever problems we have has nothing to do with the Stars and Stripes nor the country itself. Rather there are *******s among us. I'd rather see an NFLer march with BLM than take a knee.

Your own post refutes you. Taking a knee is intended to keep attention on the issue. People are addressing the issue, whereas if Kapernick et. al. weren't doing this White America would not be talking about BLM anymore -- doesn't affect them, they don't care. Taking a knee therefore serves a purpose by reminding white people that black people are still being murdered by the cops with impunity.

My god, if it spreads white people might even have to do something about it in order to remove the irritation they feel when they sit down to watch their precious football. They are, of course, the real victims in all this.

The knee is a perfect protest for the present age. You have to continually hijack the news cycle to get people to keep thinking about something, no matter how important it is, because people are dullard sheep lulled into catatonia from a lifetime of being trained to buy things they don't need by the teevee. So: infiltrate their teevee. Give morons on ESPN material for Hot Takes. Get Curt Shilling or some other racist jarhead jock involved. It doesn't matter whether the chuds who are yapping are for you or against you: it just matters that they are talking about you because now you have the public forum in which to speak, raise money, organize, etc.

Ride the media's desperate, flailing vacuum cleaner of poutrage in search of clicks and eyeballs. Turn it into your amplifier. Broadcasters and viewers can be played like a flute for your advantage. Just ask President Trump.

Playing the anthem before a sporting event is utterly meaningless and should go the way of someone coming out with a magaphone to read the starting lineups. They don't play the anthem before I go to work and they don't play the anthem before any other thing I do with my leisure time.

What (sob)?! Why do you hate Our Brave Lads (choke back tears, reach for cross-marketing agreement with army recruiters, cash their check)?!

The anthem before games is the kind of Starship Troopers political correctness we will never be rid of. The con men can always rally the dummies to get up in arms about it, just like "In God We Trust" and the other pablum we feed the underclass to keep them dying for us.

Yes, there was ALWAYS a percentage of cops who behaved this way. But like other things about the 20th century, for a time we were moving in the right direction. Perhaps there were still 10% of them doing this in 1976, but in many places it was limited to that. Now though, it is not limited to just 10% of them. It is far more now. I'm telling you, the KKK has been peddling the idea of going mainstream for a while now, and really peddling it hard since I became an adult. This is one of the more effective ways they are doing it. My guess is not only has white supremacy taken root in lots of departments, it has taken root among the leadership in a lot of them, and in the union hierarchy of plenty more.

They play it at the end of my work day, and if walking or driving I must stop to observe it. The heavily armed teenagers and deadly force authorized signs tell me I probably shouldn't kneel for it though.

Sure: cops, CBP, FBI and soldiers will always be more susceptible to right wing quackery than the gen pop, both by demographics and self-selection. You can see that even here. But I don't know if they have gotten worse over the last 20-35 years. I don't even know if the country has gotten worse over that time. As my default belief is Nothing Ever Changes, my intuition is that the descent of the Republican party into full frontal fascism has not created more fascists, it has just made those people who always were fascist more vocal, emboldened, and empowered.

The United States has always had a huge strategic reservoir of Deplorables. They just used to be fairly evenly divided between the parties so they cancelled each other out and party leadership could milk them without catering to them. Now they've all migrated to the GOP so their power and profile has increased accordingly. It's exactly what happened with the Thumpers earlier -- in fact there's a large overlap between the two groups.

But it's still those same 1-in-4 cockroaches.

I said I find it meaningless as it doesn't inspire me to further the cause. I'd personally be more moved to see Kap take a strong allegiance to BLM and make a peaceful march, etc. Others may feel differently.

I would like him, and every player in every sport, to do both.

Imagine if just every black player started doing it. And every black fan in the stands.

Non-violent shaming. Let the racists write their Hot Takes about that.

Re: Cops 5: Barney Fife, Now in Real Life!

It is so odd listening to people talk about how tough it is to be a cop in the US...cops in Latin America have it 100 times worse and they find a way to still do the job. Do you think they would get all uppity because some Futbol player didnt stand and salute the flag before a Friendly?

Small footnote: many are paid off and corrupt, and many of the ones that are not corrupt end up dead.

If they march with BLM they will get branded terrorists. Millions of people watch games every day and this silent protest has got everyone talking. Plus it puts no one at risk lord knows what might happen at a BLM protest if it is in the wrong neighborhood.

It doesnt matter...they dont whine like 2 year olds about how tough it is. Cops in America are spoiled brats with big guns and huge egos that are undertrained and trigger happy and have somehow convinced the population they have the toughest and scariest job in the world. The facts dont bare that out.
