Dude there is a fence in the way, how about you dont fire off your shotgun killing the dog. Especially since you know the people living at the house arent the person you are looking for.

Who knows, a lot of people were exceedingly upset when that dentist shot that lion. Maybe shooting some kids beloved family pet for no reason at all will get enough people off their rear ends.

The incident reminds me of something that happened to me some years ago. It was one of the handful of times I have interacted with police and personally witnessed them behaving in a fashion that bothered me. 2 plainclothed cops knocked on the door to my house sometime shortly after I bought it. One asked first if someone who was not me was there. Then he asked me what my name was. My response was to ask him who HE was and what he was asking me these questions for. It was only then that he identified himself as a cop. I realized, based on the last name of the person he was seeking and knowing the transactional history of my house, he was looking for someone who was most probably part of a family who lived there 2 previous families to me. It was likely many, many years since that person lived there. I offered that information to him, as well as my name. Then he TOLD me he'd like to come in and take a look around, IF I didn't mind, in a pretty condescending fashion. I told him I DID mind, he wasn't getting any further than my front porch and if he doubted who I was, he was free to check the tax/deed records of my address and run my plates. My car was sitting right there in my driveway. I asked the guy to vacate my property, wished him a good day and shut the door in his face.

A couple of weeks later I happened to run into the woman who I bought my house from at the local grocery store. It was her elderly mother who had last lived in the house and when she passed away, the estate sold the house and she handled the transaction. In passing I told her about the encounter with the cops. She started laughing. Her mom had lived in the house for about 10 years, moving there to be close to kids and grandkids. Perhaps 3 or 4 years earlier, she wasn't sure precisely, cops had come to her mother's door. They were looking for the same guy, part of the family her mother bought the house from. I guess there is a reason why cops are cops and not rocket scientists.

Jeebus, and that was in Austin. In the rest of Texas, they'd have told her she belonged back in chains.
Seems to be keeping with the "Keep Austin Weird" motto. Was down there 3 years ago visiting bro & family over Thanksgiving and it's seemed like a really nice town.

It's less of an issue than shooting unarmed citizens in terms of severity obviously, but the standard for cops to legally shoot a dog is pitifully low and does a lot of harm to the level of trust between police and the public. It's not reported often, but it's a major problem for many police departments.

Do the campaigns pay $$ to ASCAP? What does that get you?
