Cop trys to handcuff a 17 yr old, is he over the line?

Re: Cop trys to handcuff a 17 yr old, is he over the line?

the cop could very well have found several guys willing to jump in to defend her. Just saying.

or just say 'are you serious?' over and over and over (and over) again

Re: Cop trys to handcuff a 17 yr old, is he over the line?

He shoulda thrown some rocks at them.

Depends. If the cop is a Mexican it wouldn't have done any good because they are so like 5'4" on average and can't throw rocks good. The race of the officer is highly relevant to your idea. 5m_major himself told us so.

Re: Cop trys to handcuff a 17 yr old, is he over the line?

Not taking sides on right or wrong here, but I honestly believe hauling off and punching a woman in the face is way, way more likely to inflame the situation than to get it under control. The cop could very well have found several guys willing to jump in to defend her. Just saying.

If it's going to escalate that way, that's why they carry guns. Not saying I want to see someone get shot, but if you start going after a cop, you're begging to get your *** kicked, get tazed, or get shot. It's just an incredibly bad idea in general.

I can't think of a SINGLE scenario where I'd jump into a fight against a cop.

I could.

I wanted to commit suicide and wanted to make the cop pay the price for pulling the trigger.

But yeah, picking a fight with a cop is all sorts of stupid.

...and then there's xyz's typical contribution loaded with factual errors.

Hey, you're the one who cited the average height of Mexicans and Whites in attempt to imply that gringo can hurl stones better because they are, on average, taller. Don't like it...don't speak nonsense.

Ah...you must be talking about my reference of a Mexican government study on the demographics of its citizens...regarding the liklihood that a 14 yo kid from Mexico was over 6 feet tall.

When you put it in your own words...well it sounds like you have some sort of distain for certain races.

A) demographic data don't prove anything about the height of one particular person

B) nobody is disagreeing with your demographic information

C) It is merely your opinion that a short person cannot throw a rock in a dangerous manner. This is irrelevant, first because we don't know the height of the person in question, and secondly because you have offered no evidence that people his height (whatever it is) can't do damage with a rock.

Re: Cop trys to handcuff a 17 yr old, is he over the line?

A&B Didn't we already discuss this? I responded to someone who claimed that the kid could have been a 6' foot tall linebacker...and my simple position is that this was extremely unlikely due to government studies. That's all. But there are people who view everything with a race lense can't seem to discuss the issue from a pragmatic standpoint.

C How can one believe we are so incompetent that a single 14 yo can endanger the life of a fully trained FBI agent with a firearm from the better part of 100 yards away...to the point where the agent felt he must kill the kid? I really do want to know...from someone, anyone. (This is what happened based on CNN reports of video taken from the scene and available everywhere on the net.)

Its sad that I find it refreshing just to hear someone who isn't throwing a racially based rant in favor of a tragic death of what was largely a defenseless 14 yo. Its pretty clear that there aren't many Christians on hockey message boards...ie a pretty high disregard for life. :)

Um, because there are procedures, rules, and regulations in place for FBI agents (and cops, etc etc).

So yes, anyone can basically endanger the life of an agent. It's only at a certain level of threat can the agent react.

If the kid, unarmed, was yelling stuff like "I'm going to kill you!" the agent may have grounds for arrest at most. He can't taser the kid, or fire his weapon.

If the kid is throwing potentially dangerous objects at the agent, then the rules allow him to possibly do more than arrest him.

Also, to really stretch this point, the kid could simply be a distraction from someone else whose aim it is is to harm the agent, making the kid indirectly endangering the agent's life.

Sure...the usual regulations are there for good purpose and this may or may not sneak into the procedural leeway given to enforcement.

But based on what we know...there is little evidence it was 'the right thing to do' based on US society norms as true self defense doesn't appear to have been an issue.

Indeed if this is inappropriate behavior that's allowed to go unpunished due to what could be considered to be a technicality...in addition to a death, important security measures and leeway for enforcement could well come under attack.

And from what I've heard/read, the number of people involved, and the actions involved.....he was within his rights/rules allowances to fire.

And I must remind all others, this was very unfortunate. I wish a life wasn't lost. However, if the accidental result was a consequence of everything done legal-like, than so be it. Still sad, but won't persecute.

Understandable. You may proceed with your profanity artwork again.

Data which you used to contend with someone else's assertion that a 14yo Mexican could certainly throw rocks in a dangerous fashion.

When you put it in your own words...well it sounds like you have some sort of distain for certain races.

Well, for the first time ever you managed to make me laugh without depressing me at the same time. Congratulations, and thanks.

Re: Cop trys to handcuff a 17 yr old, is he over the line?

This topic has gotten a lot of play here - surprise! The local black community was very quick to play the race card but backed off when the girl's background came out. An arrest for robbery and another for stealing a car. The policeman has been widely supported.

Re: Cop trys to handcuff a 17 yr old, is he over the line?

the agent felt he must kill the kid

So glad we have a clairvoyant on the board who knows exactly what an agent was thinking as he made a split-second decision during a confrontation thousands of miles away - thanks for clearing that up for us.

If that exact scenario could play out 100 times, the kid dies probably less than 5 times. Making a kill shot with a handgun at that range while having rocks thrown at you and and having to deal with a guy at your ankles who you're trying to arrest is no easy feat. The officer simply fired in the general direction of the kid, and he (well, both of them) were unlucky. But the kid was the one who decided to step up to the table and throw the dice, so I just can't feel too sorry for him. It has nothing to do with race - I would say the exact same thing regardless of the races of the people involved.

Re: Cop trys to handcuff a 17 yr old, is he over the line?

Watch the Little League World Series sometime. 12 year old kids hurling baseballs at 60+ mph.
