Congratulations Providence!

Re: Congratulations Providence!

OK - you've said this now on multiple threads. They made a mistake. It's a lack of experience. Something you can't teach. The more experienced team played with more poise down the stretch. That was obvious. PC dominated the 3rd period and would have tied the game even without the fluke goal. I'm just happy it wasn't the "game winning" goal, because that would have been a horrible way to win.

You just can't simulate those conditions. It doesn't take away from the fact that BU was the best team all year with the fewest losses, the most goals and great clutch play at appropriate times. They just couldn't close the deal. Don't beat them up. It is what it is.

I think you take pleasure in pointing out whenever they "fail." I say you should get a life.

*** are you talking about. the one thing you can teach is in zone coverage. You cant teach Eichels skills but you can teach a kid to go to this exact spot on the faceoff. in zone coverage, break out, forecheck, pp, pk are gone over every single week in practice. every single week without exception.

Re: Congratulations Providence!

Congrats Friars from an MC fan. And props to Tanev, not only for the winning goal, but also for sounding very classy in his quick, on-ice postgame comments. Represented his team very well!

Re: Congratulations Providence!

It was good to see a couple of HEA teams in the final, and even better to see PC win it. The Friars looked over-matched at times, but played a better game than did BU. Very happy to see them take home the hardware.

(And as much as people like to ridicule Hokydad, I agree with him on his assessment of the game. In this age of parity, the fundamentals are more important than ever. Very, very little margin for error these days.)

Re: Congratulations Providence!

Congratulations to Providence. I guess the NCAA will have to find room for another banner at Amalie next year.

Inside the game, this was the best atmosphere I've seen for a final game. PC traveled well but I think the crowd definitely became BU v. everybody but it made it a pretty even and loud, supportive crowd.

Re: Congratulations Providence!

Congrats FRIARs! Very happy for the players, coaches and fans. To think that 4 years ago this program failed to make the HE playoffs with 4 league wins. What a great team effort. Roll 4 lines. Everyone on the bench has a job (the 3rd line scored the game winner ?). Incredibly unselfish play. Hard work. And oh yeah, great goaltending, particularly those clutch saves in the 3rd. Terrific job all around and couldn't be happier for you. I don't think you will need to wait another 30 years for the next FF. Enjoy the off season.

Re: Congratulations Providence!

Hats off to Providence, the administration, the coaches, and the players. I wonder.....if Ben Barr leaves Western Michigan this summer, does Western win the Championship next year? :D

Yup...got it. But practice isn't the National Championship game. You can teach Scott Norwood to kick a million field goals in a row, too. But you don't know what's going to happen in the Super Bowl against the Giants. According to you, "that" kick was no different that practice. What don't you understand about an inexperienced team freezing a little in the biggest moments of the year? If the best talent always won, they wouldn't have to play the game, would they?

Not "ridiculing." Disagreeing with his pompous, matter of fact, approach. This is a game played by kids and they make mistakes. They get nervous. They're not perfect. Relishing when someone screws up is not an admirable quality at any level. Apparently he's perfect and has never made a mistake in his life. Why don't we just play the game on a computer and see who wins?

With how personal you are taking it, appaently this loss stings pretty bad.

Which is good. :)

Especially reflecting on your predictions, it's better.

Re: Congratulations Providence!

When's the last time Michigan was here?

How is that important? You were the one saying that the game was already over on Friday.

I wasn't making any predictions of my team, or calling my fans out, or anything like that. Heck, you are over in a congratulations thread making a bunch of excuses.

Just reminding you of the sting. You lost after all of your chest pumping and personal taking, and all of that.

Humility goes a long way.

exactly.

great use of a timeout. do you think Leaman might have changed up who took the draw after 3rd period face off stats? just wondering. team, team, team. 100% agree that it is a bunch of kids living the dream but 3 of your stars all doing 100% the wrong thing on a critical face off after a time out at that stage of the game. Goalie should be ******$$ not upset. talk about hung out to dry

down 4-2 heading into 3rd vs two time defending natl champs, by the way, 3 goalies from this game played in nhl

watch 38 seconds on...

Last I knew, Gryz wasn't a freshman out there and Eichel has struggled mightily on face-offs since he came to college. I heard he won only 3 out of 20 faceoffs vs Canada at the Juniors.

What was Quinn thinking with Eichel out there for that key defensive zone draw?

Re: Congratulations Providence!

Humility goes a long way.

You're right. And, I did what I said I would do. I went on EVERY relevant thread and congratulated Providence (go back and look it up).

I was reacting to the incessant chatter (and this doesn't even apply to your team) about how the NCHC (and its predecessor, the WCHA, was the greatest league ever. Talk about excuses? You're telling ME I'm making excuses? I didn't make any excuses. I said that BU had the most talent in the country. They did and they do. They lost a game...I'm not going to pile on. We'll leave it at that. I'm tired of all this after an intense week. I'm going to the golf course and I'll be back in October. But when you have a moment, go look up the last eight National Championships and see how many were won by the mighty WCHA/NCHC. That was my ONLY point. You can say what you want. I reacted to the inherent, visceral hatred that appears to be targeted at BU. I was defending my school. Sorry...I don't know where you were sitting. There were twenty people around me...from Cornell, Lowell, North Dakota and Harvard. ALL of them were cheering AGAINST BU. They were NOT cheering "for" Providence. I don't care what you think. I have seen this for decades. I have been going to games since 1972. When someone incessantly beats on you, you fight back. It was not "chest thumping." And don't talk to me about humility. I went over to friends who were celebrating from Providence and congratulated them. We didn't get the job done. Period. But the incessant gloating afterwards (I did my talking BEFORE...it's like gamesmanship...but I didn't pile on after the fact...I didn't say one derogatory thing after we beat North Dakota...I know what it feels like to lose). To come on and say "Obviously it stings. Good" is classless. You don't know me and you don't know a **** thing about how much humility I have or anything else. Not to mention that you didn't even have a horse in the race. Why are you so concerned? I don't come on here and bash Michigan where they're playing and my team is not. I was reacting to the direct assault against MY team. If you don't like it, too bad. You can have the last word. I'm done.

So you are not chest pumping when you say your conference is superior.

Yea, not so much.

Tell you what- that's not going to lower your par, or make you spouse any better looking.

But if that's what it takes to swallow the very bitter pill that you perscribed yourself, so be it.

Heck, yea, we were rooting against BU. But we were also rooting FOR PC, since they had not won a championship. How does that matter at all? I certainly did not root for Omaha or UND, either. The entire weekend played out as I wanted it to.

This isn't gloating, this is rubbing it into you. Just you. Your "gamesmanship" is classless, too. Funny how you totally miss that. I guess that should not come as any surprise.

BTW, you continue to make PC's win oh, so sweet for us non PC fans. So thanks. Making the past weekend pretty awesome.

Re: Congratulations Providence!

The Friars deserve every bit of praise they are getting after winning four tough games in a row. And Jon Gillies and Brandon Tanev are the epitome of class. Congratulations on a job well done. All hail sons of Lyle Wildgoose. ;)

Re: Congratulations Providence!

TO kidiff77: Excuse me? New Hampshire's win against a team like UNO wouldn't have mattered had it happened in October? I'd somehow for forgotten that those are preseason games and don't figure in the final standings and rankings. They're just going thorough the motions and trimming down rosters.

Now to actual facts. New Hampshire won 3 of its 4 games against Providence this season. That includes eliminating them from the Hockey East playoffs in the decisive game AT Providence. Also beat both UNO and BU.

Clue: Hockey East is a tough conference. So much so that UNH didn't even make the NCAA Tournament this year. Losing to a Hockey East team isn't embarrassing. A fan of an outstanding team (UNO) might understand this a bit better than you do.

Again, HUGE props to the Friars for both a gutsy season and a "one for the ages" win last night!

PS -- can't resist pointing out that Gillies no doubt got some of his goaltending DNA from his dad. Who starred at... wait for it...

I have heard some UNH fans say some dumb things over the years, but this one might be the dumbest. Trying to take the credit for PC winning the national title cause the goalie'ss father went to UNH? Really? if it was DNA that means it's all in the genes and doesn't matter where the kid's father went. Would be same genes no matter what college? I guess you have to take credit for other team's winning it all since Dickie U just can't seem to ever get it done himself.

And since you are talking about "facts" as part of your argument, just make sure YOU get them right when you mention "actual fact" - Providence and UNH played 5 times this year not 4. 5 one goal games which UNH won 3 and Providence won 2. THAT is an "actual fact" - not what you mentioned. UNH was terrible to start the year and that's why they didn't make the tournament - dug themselves a huge hole early cause they were just not that good. FACT.

As a NH resident, I have been an opposing Friar fan in the UNH building for years and have been crapped on by their fans every time I have gone, as their fans seem to have an underserved arrogance about them as a powerhouse program, so the Friars winning makes this one even sweeter.

Just an "actual fact" here for you - National Titles won:

Providence 1
UNH 0

Let's go Friars!!!!
