Congratulations Providence!

Re: Congratulations Providence!

Of course the UNH fan thinks a win in October matters! Kings of October! And Gillies wanted to win a championship so he obviously didn't commit to UNH (oh he must have had UNH as his first choice but didn't get through admissions).

Re: Congratulations Providence!

I have heard some UNH fans say some dumb things over the years, but this one might be the dumbest. Trying to take the credit for PC winning the national title cause the goalie'ss father went to UNH? Really? if it was DNA that means it's all in the genes and doesn't matter where the kid's father went. Would be same genes no matter what college? I guess you have to take credit for other team's winning it all since Dickie U just can't seem to ever get it done himself.

And since you are talking about "facts" as part of your argument, just make sure YOU get them right when you mention "actual fact" - Providence and UNH played 5 times this year not 4. 5 one goal games which UNH won 3 and Providence won 2. THAT is an "actual fact" - not what you mentioned. UNH was terrible to start the year and that's why they didn't make the tournament - dug themselves a huge hole early cause they were just not that good. FACT.

As a NH resident, I have been an opposing Friar fan in the UNH building for years and have been crapped on by their fans every time I have gone, as their fans seem to have an underserved arrogance about them as a powerhouse program, so the Friars winning makes this one even sweeter.

Just an "actual fact" here for you - National Titles won:

Providence 1
UNH 0

Let's go Friars!!!!

Man, you're a real class act....you must be the King of Humility

Re: Congratulations Providence!

TO kidiff77: Excuse me? New Hampshire's win against a team like UNO wouldn't have mattered had it happened in October? I'd somehow for forgotten that those are preseason games and don't figure in the final standings and rankings. They're just going thorough the motions and trimming down rosters.

Now to actual facts. New Hampshire won 3 of its 4 games against Providence this season. That includes eliminating them from the Hockey East playoffs in the decisive game AT Providence. Also beat both UNO and BU.

Clue: Hockey East is a tough conference. So much so that UNH didn't even make the NCAA Tournament this year. Losing to a Hockey East team isn't embarrassing. A fan of an outstanding team (UNO) might understand this a bit better than you do.

Again, HUGE props to the Friars for both a gutsy season and a "one for the ages" win last night!

PS -- can't resist pointing out that Gillies no doubt got some of his goaltending DNA from his dad. Who starred at... wait for it...

Am I missing something, because I don't have a problem with this post at all? ;)

Re: Congratulations Providence!

Amazing...guess I won't be one of the five hundred million...

So what you are saying is that you can dish it out, but can't take it. Good to know.

And, again, thank you so much for putting more meaning into PC's win. Was so much sweeter thanks to your chest pumping. Oh so very confident that your team would dominate, and it didn't happen. Really great. For you- I jumped out of my seat once I knew you lost. Figured you would take the loss personally, and am happy to see that you did (and still do). I'm quite pleased with that.

(but I was actually happy that PC won- very big deal)

Re: Congratulations Providence!

I interrupt this argument, which I'm am sure is fascinating, to say Congratulations Providence! nicely played. (sorry I'm late)

Congratulations Providence!

Nate Leaman is one hell of a coach! Great to see another program win their first title.

Nice to see a former D3 player being the best D1 coach in the land! Wonder what his recipe for success is now that he's had such a positive impact on two D1 programs.

Cool move by Brown

“@JDonaldsonProJo: Very classy gesture by @BrownAthletics, taking out large ad in Thursday @projo to congratulate crosstown rival @FriarsHockey on NCAA title.”

Re: Congratulations Providence!

Unh is planning on raising a "real national runner up" banner for being last team to beat pc

Nate was named the USCHO.com coach of the year today. Congratulations.

Strange that the Spencer Penrose award for top coach is selected prior to the Frozen Four. This year's title game certainly might have changed a few votes. I believe Mike Hastings won the award with David Quinn the runner-up.

Congrats to the Friars.
