Conference Playoff Info

Actually if the series is over after 2 games, the Sunday Session will be a Skills Competition & a Church Basement Supper. We'll be serving Hot Dish & Lefse, so the Huskies will feel right at home.
 
Looks like D3 RIT was sucking all year and not scoring on purpose so they could save it all for playoff time since all 5 CHA teams make the playoffs regardless of if they win a single game all season or not, or exactly a single game. I feel bad for Lindenwood even though they only won 4 games. RIT should not have been eligible for the playoffs not because they only had one win but because in a conference of a mere 5 teams only the top 4 teams should be eligible for the playoffs. Having all 5 teams be in the playoffs makes the regular season a bit of a joke. RIT being in the playoffs this year in particular is either a huge joke or a huge insult to the game. I haven't decided which although I am leaning towards the latter.

They're going to go 4-26-4 and make the NCAA tournament.
 
Today in "there's a first time for everything," the BC/BU men's game -- the biggest BC men's game of the year -- got bumped to Sunday in favor of the BC/Maine women's game because of the weather. I cannot wait for a bunch of folks to show up expecting BC/BU men and then sticking around for the women's game instead.

Lmao, or they run the table and win the National Championship! How many more wins would that take?

Later on last night I saw in D3 playoff action that last/7th place Curry College also only had one win all season in-conference but also won yesterday upsetting 2nd place Suffolk University by a score of 3-2. I also read that they made a decision as a conference "earlier this month" to expand their playoff structure to include all 7 teams "due to rescheduling challenges created by COVID-19 protocols" during the season, so it seems that there would have been only 6 teams otherwise, which would have meant no playoffs for Curry. Talk about being opportunistic! Got to feel for Suffolk though. I believe with 6 teams in the playoffs they would have had a first round bye into the semi-finals. Instead they are out of the picture now. That's got to hurt!

Everyone is 0-0-0 come playoff time. Anything can happen. Good teams win at home, better teams win on the road. Love a good underdog.

Except RIT and Curry just aren't "good" and neither team should have qualified for playoffs of any kind.

All True.

The catch is that the probabilities in most games aren't 50/50. But that's precisely why love underdogs. Through some combination of intelligence and effort, they're trying to beat the odds. Those are redeeming qualities.

My only quarrel is that if the odds are 90/10 against a team, those of us watching the game shouldn't be acting like it's a 50/50 contest.

Ya. When you get outshot 52-12 and you find yourself losing in OT, you have to realize how lucky you are to have pushed your opponent that far. To have 12 shots in almost 4 periods of hockey means you spent most of the game in your own zone trying to hold off your opponent from scoring and you spent very very little time on offense. With that being the case for RIT yesterday, I was really surprised to hear their very young coach express how heartbroken the loss was in the post-game presser, and that they had been in the position to close out wins coming into the playoffs or something to that effect. They won 1 game all season! What was she talking about?! They were extremely lucky to have been in that game yesterday, so I absolutely commend them for that and for blocking so many shots but they are not close to the same level as Syracuse, Mercyhurst, or PSU. Lindenwood yes, but not the rest. Their goalie did a tremendous job between the pipes and that was impressive. They definitely need those scholarships to try to catch up and close the very obvious gap in talent.

Then maybe, and I am just shooting from the hip here, just maybe…. Lindenwood and Suffolk shouldn’t have lost to those teams and have nobody to blame but themselves?

However, I think she took the right line. You and I can say that RIT's problem is that they don't have talent; she can't. These are the players that she has, and even if we think they are devoid of talent, their season (career in some cases?) just ended minutes before. I'd much rather that she's on their side than be one of the coaches who are cold and distant and act resentful that their team wasted their time all season.

Watching St. Thomas play their first season of D1 hockey, I am very impressed with how Bethany Brausen has handled the team with head coach Joel Johnson doing the Olympics most of the season. She is always positive, always cheerful looking, and seems to compliment her players regardless of how badly they have been shellacked. We who follow the top notch teams are spoiled. Most teams don't get a whiff at the NCAA finals. Have a thought for the lower ranked teams, and be kind when you have the opportunity.
 
UConn fell behind in opening minute, tied BU by intermission, and after a 2nd-period PP goal from Summer Rae Dobson, lead the Terriers, 2-1, after two.
 
Yale scores goals 13 seconds apart and now leads SLU, 3-2, late in the 2nd.
