No eastern bias. I just took the next 8 teams in the PWR who are not in the big dance. There was a tie between Alaska and Brown and just placed Alaska ahead of Brown to avoid an inter conference matchup.

To be fair though, if the games were played on campus sites the turnout would probably be much better.

consolation St Louis 7 Lake State 5
championship Duluth 7 UVM 4

IIRC, UVM was still ECAC-2 back then.


Edit: The name was National Invitational Hockey Tournament (NIHT).

And we can have the CHI (College Hockey Invitation) instead of the CTI and the CIT (Collegiate Insiders Tournament) too!

Too bad that would put the percentage of college hockey teams in postseason tournaments at more than 40%...which is higher than college basketball which puts in 37%.
