On the break down of heights, weights, and age by position, you have used the HEA list of schools for the ECAC.

Does anyone know who the players from DC, Maryland, and Virginia are? I know Jay Williams is from (and listed as being from) McLean, VA, but I'm curious about the others. An interesting case regarding Virginia and the point of where players grew up vs. what they're listed as on the roster was Brendan Woods. His freshman year, he was listed as being from Fairfax, VA, because his father, Bob Woods, was an assistant coach for the Capitals. The next year, he was listed as being from southern California, as his family moved there because Bob Woods became an assistant coach for the Ducks. If I recall correctly, he's really from Manitoba.

I have the data in a database and can look it up for you on Sunday when I get home. I pulled the data from collegehockeystats, so there very well could be some inconsistencies in where players are from.

As I wrote to mnstate0fhockey earlier, he is really best off using a single source like collegehockeysttats. Otherwise he is opening up Pandora's box. There are certainly cases like what you mention, but if he changes one without the almost impossible task of looking into all of the players' histories, he is tampering with the stats. JMHO.

Bonin21 made a good point about money. At least on the surface, it appears the higher income suburbs of major metro areas are strongly represented. Have you given any thought to examining the standard of living as it relates to the players?

One thing we would likely see is that a higher percentage of players coming out of non-traditional markets came from wealthier areas, on average, than those from the traditional hotbeds. Leagues in general are more expensive to play in, but that difference gets way more significant when you look at leagues that actually give a kid a chance to reach the NAHL or USHL (or get invited to a NTDP tryout).

Great statistics and analysis. I would make one constructive criticism about the layout. I find that the alternating backgrounds and black and white fonts make the lists very difficult to read, something simpler and straight forward may make the lists more user friendly. Also, i agree that many players CHS are listed with last known address rather from where they developed their game.

Watching UAA play you wouldn't think we would have the oldest D corp in college hockey, being older implies more wisdom and um yeah we don't exactly have that going on this season.
