I'm all for punishing fans who still worship Joe Paterno. I don't root against kids that go to Penn State. I just don't want Paterno worshippers to have any joy in life.

There are a LOT of PSU students that back JoePa, and feel like they have been unfairly scrutinized. It's complete BS.

Prove us wrong. The majority still honor JoePa. The NCAA backed down on some of the penalties. There is still a "hero" attitude with JoePa. They don't want to admit their hero is a fake (and per previous posts, I truly understand).

And yes...for that you guys are wrong. What their now former coaches did has no bearing on that.
IMO you're still wrong for continuing to paint all of Penn State as pedophiles...whether they still worship Paterno or not.
Continuing to use Pedo State is wrong IMO and I will always believe that.

And I'm not denying that. Nor am I denying that Paterno should have done more. But to say he's the evil one here? No....that's Sandusky. Again...its easy to look at this from our perspective and time and claim Paterno is/was evil but IMO you need to also look at it from the perspective of the generation he came from. This type of stuff wasn't talked about and didn't happen with people who were in society. So to that generation (and again...this is my perspective based on conversations within my family) someone like Sandusky couldn't have done something like that. It's willful blindness based on knowing and working closely with someone for as long as they did.

My other problem again is...every one who was involved is long gone from the school. Does every future student or employee get branded with this just because they choose to go/work there? That's where it gets ridiculous.

"Knowing" because he was told and "believing" him to be capable of it are not the same IMO. Again...i AM NOT absorbing Paterno. He should have done more. I just do not put him on the same level of evil as the man who actually raped kids. And I do not see the point of trying to bring down the school as a whole continually because they worship a coach.
That's petty...be better than that.

Yes...really.

I honestly could be wrong here I have never been to Penn State. I just don't see all of this hero worship stories about all these fans that just can't let it go. Yes it was there when they first came out I've seen nothing in like 2 years that says anything about any of this. If it were such a big massive prevalent problem, wouldn't you think they'd be people saying there's a massive prevalent problem on this campus? I mean I get wanting to hate him it's just the everybody associated with that school needs to burn or something stuff that really just gets Petty.
I readily admit there is a lot of hero-worship it is probably still going on with a lot of them. But it's still an institution of Higher Learning and plenty of people who were around when Joe was there are gone. They taken new jobs, they've graduated, they've moved away. you got a whole new crop of students who have never seen any game ever involving Joe Paterno live on that campus. You're going to tell me that it's so prevalent still everything is just absolved? I find that very difficult to believe.
Again I could be wrong, maybe I just think people down deep are decent no matter what our political thread say.

This “whole new crop” chose to go there knowing the whole story. If they’re so ambivalent (emotionally uninvolved) then why the push to remove sanctions? Why the stickers? Etc. Those are actions being taken by the *current* PSU community, which completely undercut the argument that the past is past and we should let it go. That cuts both ways - if the past is so unimportant, then the current student body needs to let it go, too, and not be so strident in their defense of JoePa and so adamant that his records should remain on the books. If the current PSU community would do that, then I’m sure that most of the current detractors would let it go, too. The current PSU community is bringing this on themselves.

It's a little like (forgive me for this--it's a reach) Al Franken. I felt it was unjust that he was forced to resign, but in the bigger picture, people like him were going to get swept along if the movement was to succeed, so I could accept it. It may be unfair to current players and students to associate them with Paterno and Sandusky, but in the interest of holding PSU (and the NCAA, which profited from PSU's football status) accountable for failing to protect young boys and hammering home how much more important that is than the college football money machine, I'm OK if the stench sticks to some innocent people for a while.

Eleven or twelve though is going to be a stretch, although having attended my fair share of Gopher sporting events over the years Ive heard some pretty creative spellings of Minnesota.
