Re: College Football 2017-18: Now with more CTE!
I'm glad Bielema failed.
Not because he left here. Many of us
wanted him gone at the time.
He was a world class tool off the field when he was here. There were lots of stories circulating from very credible sources that included boorish behavior and worse. Word is that Barry had to babysit him a bit and get him out of trouble.
My own story is when me and a couple buddies stopped at a bar after playing hockey on a Thursday night. Arrived at around midnight and there's Bret at the bar with another couple. They proceeded to drink and do shots and carry on till 2:00.
He was the D-Coordinator at the time and two days later, Northwestern put up over 50 on us. I'd never say that these guys can't have a private life and can't enjoy themselves, but was a bad look considering what happened two days later.
That's an extremely G-rated story compared to others that I heard at the time but it contributes to the reports that he was a drunkard.
He dd a
good job in terms of wins/losses as a head coach, but never got us over the hump which makes him no better or worse than any of the coaches we've had since the early 90s. I think it's clear that there is a framework in place where any number of solid coaches can have success here.
He's a multi-millionaire now, so I'm sure he'll get through this somehow.
Still can't believe Erin Andrews did that.
My favorite Bielema moment...

I
will miss watching Arkansas games for the schadenfreude.
