12 days between the semifinals and the championship game. Ridiculous.

I don't think 1 more week is helping traveling fans that much. So it's gotta be about money.

C'mon. If there's eye-witness testimony that he was drunk on the job, there's no way this will stand, right? An employer can't fire you solely for seeking treatment, but it's always part of your agreement for continued employment that you will follow all employer policies, and any employer worth its salt has a written & enforceable drug & alcohol policy. If they can prove he violated that in any way, this suit will get tossed.

But how does that agreement rate when compared to protections against discrimination of those with disabilities and diseases? Alcoholism has long been considered a disease, and therefore covered in those protections in man (all?) states.

Not to intrude, but my first advice would be to include the Rose Parade in your plans. Overall I've seen it 3 times. Never gets old.

Reserved bleacher seats aren't cheap, but in the context of a trip to SoCal, they aren't outrageous. Having reserved seating and parking definitely has it's selling points. Note that if you buy one of the "official packages," parade arrangements may be included. In that case the tour bus would probably take you to the parade.

On the other hand, watching for free on the other side of the street is a viable option. The Plan: Arrive a little earlier, chose a vantage point about two-thirds of the way down the parade route, and be prepared to stand for the duration of the parade. People in the first couple of rows will probably have spent the night, and will have lawn chairs, sleeping bags or both. But if you can position yourself immediately behind the overnighters, you'll be able to see just fine.

Yeah, you gotta see it at least once. In 2012 I got in early morning so I missed it, but saw it in 2013. I'm not sure I will this year, not because it wasn't fun, but because it is pretty darn early and sleeping in on New Years might be fun this year. If you do go, make sure you stay to after the end for the people's parade, where people with political issues of the day march behind with their own signs and banners. You'll get a true taste of California kook.s

Parade definitely needs to be on the itinerary. Watched most of it from some side street. Is the parade also in Pasadena? I just remember everything around Pasadena seemed farther than it should've been. The walk to the stadium went on and on.

But since it was ~0 degrees that day in Michigan I wasn't complaining about walking around in 80 degrees. I remember it was a 90 degree swing for my flight back. 80 in LA to -10 in O'Hare. One of my favorite little anecdotal stories was going to the parade. It was probably around 50 degrees or so that morning. One of the coldest winters I can remember had already started in Michigan and all the State fans were walking around in short sleeves and shirts. The Stanford fans and security guards were in coats and gloves.

Anyway, excuse my rambling. Go if you can. It's looking like my sister won't be able to. She said tickets, air, and hotel at the current prices would run her around 3300.

You're right about the walk. The shuttle bus from the city center to the stadium is definitely recommended over hiking it. I'll admit to not practicing what I preach; I've driven rental cars to the parking on the adjacent golf course. But due to long lines for the parking, I'm leaning to using the shuttle if there is a next time.

Had a virtually identical experience back in January 2010, also flying back to O'Hare. My memory is sketchy, but I believe we've previously compared notes on this?

Again a parallel experience, though mine was at the beach, and the temp was closer to 60. Oh, BTW. Please reassure me that everyone was wearing short sleeves and shorts.:eek: Otherwise the stories are quite different.;)

I'm guessing that a lower price can be had by staying in a different part of LA, flying into a secondary airport, etc. Regardless, it won't be cheap. But at the same time, if you have a source of face value tickets, that can literally save a fan hundreds of dollars.

Parade's in Pasadena. Pasadena isn't too big, but the stadium's NW of Pasadena so if you're farther down the parade route, where it's cheaper or easier to see, you're father east, so that will add some distance. Plus the walking route to the stadium is a little wind-y. But it's downhill going to the stadium, and you go through some cute neighborhoods, so it's not too bad of a trip, especially given the context. On the way out, though, you'll definitely want to take the shuttle up to Pasadena, and you'll definitely be waiting 90-120 minutes to get on it, and you may be wondering where the hell the end of the line of people waiting for the shuttle actually is. But it's all part of the experience.

I appreciate all of the Rose Bowl tips and discussion.

We mentioned Iowa travels well, and will for this game.. Applications for tickets are due Thursday at 5pm for I-Club members. (Donors)

Earlier today at 2 p.m. there were already 39,500 requests in for Iowa's 22,000 Rose Bowl tickets.

I've heard from the athletic department that what Stanford doesn't sell will go to the University of Iowa, which will be anywhere from 2,000-10,000 tickets.
