College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Also, Tennessee isn't a good team this year, despite being 8-4. Georgia is their only meaningful win, then they lost to UF, Ark, OU, and Alabama, aka teams with a pulse, and then beat up on the weaklings of the SEC (UK, Mizzou, Vandy, SC) and joke OOC teams (BG, WCU, UNT). And for that they got to be #25 in the CFP rankings.

So, by your logic, is Northwestern a good team this year? They have only one meaningful win, and lost to the other "teams with a pulse."

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

No- other than the top teams, the bowls get to pick who they want. That is still how it works.

Once MSU got into the top 4, the Rose Bowl does not have to take the best B1G team- they can do what they want. The only team they have to take right now is Stanford- as they are the P12 best and not already spoken for.

Again, I WANT Iowa to got to the Rose Bowl, but the Buckeyes spend more money.

Buckeyes spend more money? Have you seen how well Iowa travels? The only teams in the Big Ten that travel better are Wisconsin and Nebraska.

Iowa has to be a lock given they haven't been to the rose bowl in a while. The Big Ten does use that as a factor to boost teams.

And beat Duke, PSU, Wisconsin...

You're going to count those teams, but discount Bowling Green?

At the end of the day, Stanford lost twice. They didn't deserve to be in a four-team playoff.

As for Oklahoma, would anyone here really be surprised if the Sooners wound up winning the whole thing? They are favored against Clemson and are arguably the most complete team in all of college football.

McCaffrey would be my heisman winner. The fact that he does it running, receiving and special teams. Kinda like when woodson won it.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Stanford belongs in the playoff IMO but not necessarily a 4 team playoff. It's tough. And i do subscribe that there's no reason a 2 loss team can't be ranked higher than a 1 loss team.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Well as I've said before, I'm going to be biased here, so I'm going to be cherry-picking numbers like crazy. And still coming off of the high from last night. Not every year you get to beat USC twice!

I'm hoping for Iowa. It's fun to play the team who hasn't been in awhile, makes for a more lively atmosphere. But OSU, like it or not, offers a name brand that it would look good long-term for the program to beat.

Other things about McCaffrey. While he did take two more games to beat Sanders' record (well actually one and a half since he did it in the second quarter), he did it in fewer touches. Additionally, last night he had 200 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving, which is only the 5th time that has been done in FBS history. Also, that is his second 100 yards rushing and receiving game this year; everyone else in FBS has a total of two. He was also the second player this season to run, pass, and throw for a TD in one game; the other? Kevin Hogan earlier in the same game.

And apparently, you have not seen how well OSU travels. Bury your head in the sand all you want, but there is more money in OSU at a bowl.

No they don't. If you have to scream about being a national title contender with two losses, you've already lost the argument in this era of football.

This is just another year where four is exactly right. Anyone left out has zero claim to the throne. Either win your conference, play a tougher schedule, or both.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Whew- looks like Iowa will go play Stanford in Pasadena.

Wonder if Iowa will patch up that run game D enough for Stanford. That should be a good one.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

And Notre Dame vs. OSU. That will be interesting, but I'm hoping to miss that game attending another one.

You could have made a case for 11-2 Stanford over 12-1 UNC given the two FCS opponent and loss to 3-9 USCe

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Neither have any sort of claim to the playoffs. They just aren't good enough.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

These bowl announcements are painful.

2 games in 3 hours. The next 4 in 30 min.

Now there are nearly 30 more with 30 min left. Just announce them already.

Correction on that, another 15 min of two games. Geez. There are more teams out there than 4.

Better yet, if you need to say something you haven't thought of already- maybe you should find another job. You've had 3.5 HOURS to talk.

Agree to disagree. You can't just look at 2 losses in a vacuum because that team could have played a rougher non conference and also be in a tougher conference. Eventually i think they expand to 6 or 8 etc. Stanford would be in. That's basically what i said. I didn't say they belonged in the 4 team field.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

I just think the argument of "team A lost 2 games and team B only lost 1" is way too simplistic.
