College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

Re: College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

It's going to be about who blinks first.

Pac-10 has to hold firm. Baylor does not belong in the Pac-10.

Re: College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

Can't say I like the idea of ASU and U of A being stuck with six former Big 12 schools in an eastern division of a possibly expanded Pac Ten. Yuck.

I actually like Baylor, but it's hard to see how they'd have a whole lot of leverage, unless they have some strong connections to important Texas legislators or something.

ESPN says the 12th spot is between Colorado and Baylor. They also say Nebraska and Missouri have been given a Friday deadline by the Big 12...Nebraska says it hasn't even been invited to the Big 10 yet...

The Omaha World-Herald disagrees with you...

http://www.omaha.com/article/20100608/NEWS01/100609687#nu-to-big-10-as-early-as-friday

It basically says that NU will jump ship on Friday FWIW.

Re: College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

I would love to see Iowa State join the B10 (along with Missouri & Nebraska).

It would make the most sense...but doesnt ISU not want to be in a conference with Iowa for some reason? I dont blame them, Iowa sucks harder than North Dakota and Wisconsin combined and smells like it too but I swear I have heard that rumor before.

In what way does adding ISU make sense? They are the second-tier school in a state that a) the Big Ten already owns, and b) is ridiculously small in terms of market size anyway. They add nothing in terms of athletic gravitas, facilities, accomplishments, or fanbase.

Re: College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

In non-expansion news, ESPN is reporting that USC will hold a press conference tomorrow to respond to the NCAA's findings. Odd that they are responding before the NCAA annouces their findings (which will happen Friday).

Because it is ridiculous to have two major schools in one state playing in separate conferences. Dont feed me the Big Ten arrogance BS about how ISU is below our standards...it isn't. I dont care about the money or whether it will add viewers to the BTN because guess what, I am a fan. And as a fan I would like to see them as part of a conference that their sister school is part of already.

It is the same reason I fully supported Bemidji State joining the WCHA...

Breaking on ESPN: Nebraska confirmed to Big-10, the Big-12 "is dead," and 6 teams (including Texas, A&M, Colorado, Texas Tech and Oklahoma -- I guess the other one is OSU) will join the former Pac-10.

Oh my.

Now there will be a mad scramble by the other former Big 12 teams to join the Big Ten (or whatever their name is this week). It'll be interesting to see what Kansas does...they aren't much of a football powerhouse, but they're a perennial power in hoops.

This destroys the Oklahoma/Nebraska rivalry once and for all.

This may also be the end of the NCAA.

Of course, your assumption is that Iowa State is a major school. Frankly, I think it's closer to Boise State and Wyoming than it is Iowa or Nebraska, but that's just me.

I just heard my Cyclone ex-girlfriend's scream all the way from Seattle.

Fair enough...personally I think all schools in Iowa suck :p

Kepler,

The big rumor has been that once the Superconferences get finalized they will leave the NCAA and do it themselves. That way they decide who plays for what and they keep all the money.

Re: College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

Assume Nebraska & Missouri to the B10. Invite ISU, which puts the B10 at 14 and they can give a desperate Notre Dame the old raspberry. :) ;)

Cue Handy going off on a Spaceballs tangent. :D :p

Re: College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

If all the football schools get together in 4-5 conferences, they can tell the NCAA to stuff it. What need would they have for the NCAA? They can leave the NCAA, police themselves (yeah right) and make their own TV deals. The NCAA would be reduced to Divisions II and III, and the smaller/non-football schools. CBS isn't going to pay billions to televise a basketball tournament without UNC, UCLA, Florida, Duke etc etc etc. But ESPN will gladly pay the Alphabet Soup conglomeration of conference schools to televise *their* games.

That would also take the hammer away from the NCAA when it comes to non-revenue sports (like hockey) and we'll disappear from the ESPN family entirely. So will soccer, lax and pretty much everything else.
