Colgate 2026-27

Well, today I purchased my Colgate at Stonehill tickets for October 9-10.
It appears that their Warrior Ice Arena seats 500 people and last year's average was 238 people.
It will be arena number 156 for me. Tickets were $20 each.
The next day, I will hit the Royal Military College at Army West Point exhibition game on my way home.

My car has been in the shop last week and this week getting deer damage repaired (from July incident).
But, if it is completed by Friday afternoon, I will likely go to the Colgate at Union exhibition game on Friday with Colgate Zach.
Is anybody else on this thread planning to do the same?
If the chariot is not done, then I will watch it on ESPN+, either at 6 p.m. (according to ESPN+) or at 7 p.m. (according to CHN).
IOWA - Patty and Joe Caprio will be there tomorrow night. I hope your car will be fixed by then! I didn’t realize the exhibition game was being aired on ESPN+, so I will happily tune in. Let’s go ‘gate!

Barb, I rescued my car (finally) but decided not to risk deer damage tonight coming home from Union College, as I-88 is deer-infested. So now I am watching Colgate at RIT women on FloHockey and the score is 2-2 after one. However, 'Gate has out-shot the Tigers, 15-6. Shortly, I will open ESPN+ for the Colgate at Union exhibition game.

Hello everyone! Hope everyone had a good off-season. We're only 3 days away from the start of a new Colgate men's ice hockey campaign!

Yesterday I received this email from Coach Harder, I think it is worth sharing:

Here’s what I saw on the ice in preseason when I snuck back into the rink to write this letter. Practice had ended, everyone else had cleared out and was probably already at Frank Dining Hall, while our captain, Ryan Sullivan, was still out there with two of our first-years, making passes, chatting, feeding them one-timers, and occasionally chirping something that was either coaching or trash talk (hard to tell which). Nobody told him to do it. He just did, and it makes us better.

Sully was born in Newfoundland and raised in Alberta and proudly wears the “C.” He leads in ways you might never actually see, and he’s got company. Senior Jake Schneider ran an actual Drop/Add clinic to help our first-years land the classes they needed. Turns out Jake is also a wizard in the computer lab, teaching all seven newcomers his best Colgate life hacks. Antonio Fernandez, a little more subdued (but not too subdued to star in a dance class), makes sure nobody eats alone and is still the guy picking up pucks after practice like it’s his job.

We have an amazing group, from mentor to mentee, and we’re glad you get to watch them play.

Mark your calendar for Friday and Saturday nights starting October 9, when nonconference play kicks off and rolls into ECAC action. Those three seniors and the entire team around them will make you proud to be a Colgate hockey supporter.

Thank you and see you soon.

Go, ’gate!

Hi Iowa, And all my Gate friends. I attended the Gate- Union game on Friday. I thought Dyck played really well and stole a few that Union had wide open looks at. Obviously, its hard to judge anything in the early going, but I thought Colgate transitioned really well out of the their zone and certainly played an uptempo style. Sullivan was a physical presence and did captain-like things....lol

Thanks, Rainman and Wicked.
I got the same email from Mike Harder as Rainman and it accomplished its mission… getting the faithful fired up about captain Ryan Sullivan, the seniors, and the new season.
I watched the Union exhibition and liked the performance by Reid Dyck, then read Wicked’s comments about Reid and Ryan and got feeling all warm-n-fuzzy again.
I say it every preseason… I expect to see Colgate in the ECAC finals and the NCAA Frozen Four… until they prove to me on the ice that they don’t belong there. It all starts Friday at Stonehill.
I have my tickets purchased for the next ten ‘Gate games, so I should have a good feel about this year’s team before I need to decide about the mid-November games at Yale and Brown. I would like to think that we’ll play better than .500 hockey, but there are no gimme’s in the college game (and Mike’s coaching brethren in the ECAC are doubtful).

It all starts Friday at Stonehill
Friday and Saturday's games are actually in Boston, at Warrior Ice Arena (the Boston Bruins practice facility).
There is also free live video for both games at: https://necfrontrow.com.

Also of note, if you subscribe to YouTube TV, you can now record/DVR most of Colgate's games (both men and women) due to the service recently integrating ESPN Unlimited into its ecosystem. For the men, this weekend's games and the Friendship Four games in Northern Ireland are the only ones not on ESPN+.

Reid Dyck in goal for ‘Gate. Jack Olson also dressed.
Linards Lipskis in goal for Stonehill.

Stonehill penalty (interference).
Colgate penalty (tripping).
Stonehill penalty killed.
Stonehill penalty (interference).
Colgate penalty killed.
Stonehill penalty killed.
Our Power Play needs work. Missed passes.

Colgate penalty (interference).
And Jake Schneider immediately scores a SHG!! From Luke Pakulak.
Penalty killed.

Colgate penalty (cross-checking).
19 seconds of penalty remaining to start second period.

Colgate 1, Stonehill 0, score after one.

Warrior Ice Arena is modern and nice, but tiny (maybe 500 capacity). And it seems freezing, but my blood just may need to thicken up for hockey season. Many Boston area ‘Gate alum here tonight; way more than I normally see at away games. Michael Neumeier got an assist last night for Western Michigan.

Colgate penalty killed.

And Stonehill tied it up with a clean shot.

Stonehill penalty (head contact). Killed.

Stonehill 20, Colgate 14, SOG after two.
Colgate 1, Stonehill 1, score after two.

Our defense needs to tighten up. Too many shots getting through to Reid Dyck.

Colgate 1, Stonehill 1, score after regulation.
Going to 3-on-3 OT for five minutes.

OT was all Stonehill, including the winning goal with 1:54 minutes left.

Stonehill 2, Colgate 1, final score after OT.

We never trailed, and lost 😥

And our first goal of the season was a shorthanded one! One of those "bad turnover" goals that has plagued us in the past. So that makes last night's outcome even more frustrating.

Well, since the gates had opened...I'm rooting for Coach Harder obviously, but never liked the hire in the first place...very little college coaching experience (notwithstanding he was a great player) with probably very few links to the inside world of recruiting, etc. The first two years post DV benefitted from a good staple of DV recruits...that ended (pretty much) last year...from where I sit (with some, but not great access) our 2026 and 2027 recruits do not appear impressive. He's done a good job in the transfer portal, but not much else in bringing some depth of talent to Hamilton. I do know one thing from DV's tenure at The Gate: it's not an easy job (and even harder today)...although DV may have stayed a few years too long the 2023 season brought him a deserved ECAC Championship...IMO we are now a long way from competing for another one...

Well, it is what it is and we have what we have, so we’d better pick up the pieces, regroup/recommit and try to get a split this weekend on the road.

Give Rainman credit for finding the one positive from last night… Jake Schneider’s short-handed goal from Luke Pakulak.

For what it is worth, Boston College went down last night, at home, to independent Alaska, 3-2.

You read it here first…

"We certainly were not the best version of ourselves tonight. We have to give them credit as well, they played hard and forced us to make mistakes. We will be better tomorrow."

- Colgate coach Mike Harder (after the last night’s loss)

Reid Dyck is in goal for ‘Gate again tonight.
Mason Vaccaci is in goal for Stonehill.

Not three minutes in, Colgate penalty (boarding). Scramble in front of Dyck and Stonehill finally banged it in.

Stonehill penalty (cross-checking). Killed.

Colgate penalty (elbowing). And Jake Schneider with another SHG.

Stonehill penalty (tripping). Killed.

Stonehill 10, Colgate 5, SOG (extremely unofficial).
Colgate 1, Stonehill 1, score after one.

Colgate penalty (cross-checking). Killed.

Once again, chaos in front of the net and Stonehill banged it in.

Stonehill penalty (interference). Killed.
Stonehill penalty (tripping). Killed, but the ensuing rush netted a third for Stonehill.

Colgate penalty (cross-checking). Killed.

Stonehill 20, Colgate 15, SOG after two.
Stonehill 3, Colgate 1, score after two.

And Tobias Ohman gets one back for ‘Gate. Unassisted.

Stonehill penalty (tripping).
Colgate penalty (roughing).
Stonehill penalty killed.
Colgate penalty killed.

Stonehill penalty (boarding). Killed.

8:14 remaining. ‘Gate down 3-2.

Colgate penalty (boarding). Killed.

2:32 remaining.
Colgate penalty (tripping).
And a Stonehill PPG. 4-2.
Reid Dyck pulled.

Stonehill 4, Colgate 2, final score.
