Well, we finally woke up in the third period and aware that Cornell went into somewhat of a defensive shell, we still put a lot of pressure in their end. Two keys to our loss: the second Cornell goal (the floater that was misplayed and ended up in our net and that horrific 5-minute major performance at the start of the second). Probably too much passing around the net (McGraw comments were spot on) and a lot of dump and chase...the latter may be a function of Cornell forwards being faster on the counter attack (IMO we've got to get our skill level and speed upgraded)...Takacs was both good and not so good...he moved well and made some great saves, although two 5-hole goals hurt...let's face it: it's Q-Pac and Cornell again with Dartmouth in the wings...not expecting much the rest of the way, but secure home ice for the first round and go from there...this is a team that has two engines: one is really good, one is really frustrating...there seems to be no middle ground...

Cornell won the first two periods, we were all over them in the third. I think the shots at one point in the third were 19-5 in favor of Colgate. We made it 3-2 but Cornell tightened up the last five minutes, fourth goal killer then open netter. "If" we could play tonight like we did in the third it could be a game, but I am not very confident, Lynah is a very tough place to play in.

Watching tonight's game on ESPN+, I heard a lot of "safety school", "Cornell rejects" and "Colgate sucks" chants from the 4,000+ Lynah idiots.

They got cocky. We made them shut up and go home stunned.

Obviously we won it in OT. Isiah Norlin from Max Nagle and Easton Wainwright.

Another crazy game. 2 goals on 12 SOG against Alexis Cournoyer. Tons of penalties, as expected. Colgate’s Mr. Faceoff had one last night and two tonight… just himself. Antonio Fernandez is scrappy. Reid Dyck got the win at a jam-packed Lynah Rink, which is a memory that will last a lifetime.

Rainman, you are exactly right. A subdued crowd exiting Lynah tonight, with only a few chanting something about banners. I will take current wins over historic banners any day of the week.

I really enjoyed myself both nights. Cornell Greg came over to Hamilton last night and was at Lynah tonight. Same with Colgate Zach. Ithaca Kip joined us tonight, just as Endicott Larry did last night. And the roads home tonight were only slightly better than last night.

Iowa, that might have been me chanting about banners and how they make them up (Ivy League doesn’t exist in hockey). I mean we probably would have won every patriot league title until BU entered the league so we could have 91-10 that would be a lot of banners

However, the Kraft goal late in the third should have stood. Pirtle was steered into the goalie, he had no way out.

Would love to have a few more Max Nagel's on this team...gutsy effort...over the past two decades or so (what ever, what's 10 years when you're 75) we seem to play better at Lynah than at home against Cornell...another tough weekend ahead, but continue to get points...would also love to get either or both Merner/Niedemeyer back to reduce the load on Neumeier/Norlin...Dyck very solid

One of the announcers on the ESPN feed said boxes of Colgate toothpaste were being thrown onto the ice at the end of the game. That's odd, it's usually at the beginning.

Meanwhile, our recent trends continue:

• For the 4th weekend in a row, we have a not-so-great performance on Friday only to redeem ourselves with a win on Saturday.
• For the 3rd season in a row (and every season since Mike Harder became Colgate's head coach), we split the regular season home-and-home with Cornell. All 3 times we lost on Friday then won on Saturday.
• I'm hoping our recent Saturday success continues, since we play Quinnipiac on a Saturday 2 weekends from now. Though I would like us to do better on Fridays.

We gave the #8 team in the country all they could handle both games. Either team could have swept, so I guess a split was fair ! The NCAA put up a reel of the winning goal on Facebook, watched it about ten times, Nagle undresses the Cornell defenseman and gets the Cornell goalie to commit going down and then dishes to Norlin who buries it !
Credit to Dyck who played fantastic in net. We played well this weekend !

For the record, the Elders among the Lynah Faithful hate the toothpaste bit, mostly because it is boring and obvious. Be a little more interesting, students. Throw cavity plushies or something.

That they were thrown at the end indicates it was drunk frattards. The "tradition," as inane as it is, is during Gate's entry during pregame skate, so the rink staff has enough time to clean up and we don't risk a penalty. That's supposed to be it and in fact Cornell coaches and players have patiently explained for a decade that doing it at any other time could cost us a Delay call and is dangerous to all players. This was just the bad sportsmanship of some fuckwits and I suspect the Cornell crowd ahem corrected them as we are wont to do.

Good luck down the stretch. Both squads being good helps each.

I am not sure he had a chance. The Gate rider had him hoist up with a stick between the legs like a wheelbarrow. That was pure momentum, he didn't have any steering left. At that point he was just a curling stone.

I don't believe the Gate defender set it up nullify a potential goal. (1) Nobody thinks that far in advance and (2) he just saw a guy bearing down on his goalie and the reptile brain said "crush, kill, destroy." That's just good in the paint hockey.

I always thought Gate benefitted more from teams playing against Cornell first. Cornell is normally more physical, I think Gate was actually the more physical team this weekend !

Kepler, I appreciated your clear-eyed view of your student section. I would critique ours but alas at most home games the vast majority of students are disguised as empty seats.

I always respect the program Cornell has built in a way I just cannot do for Quinnipiac. As you point out, it behooves both our teams when the other is strong. Good luck to the Big Red the rest of the way.
