Colgate 2025-26

I didn't really expect us to get a split against a very good Mich State team, but I was hoping that at least we'd be competitive in one game...this is simply a continuation of an o-o-c record that over the past two decades (save the 2013-14 season where we went 7-7-1 against - at season's end - top 20 programs) STINKS...and our goalie played quite well...hey, note that Army has 5 goals through 2 1/2 periods today against a decent UMass team...we're not scoring enough goals and inexcusable mistakes continue to plague us...
 
I know that I am crazy obsessed with the NCAA Percentage Index (NPI), but...
Colgate is #47,
Clarkson is #48, and
Saint Lawrence is #61 (of 63 programs).

As for the ECAC Hockey standings...
Colgate is #3,
Clarkson is #11, and
Saint Lawrence is #12 (of 12 programs).
 
Reid Dyck led Colgate out onto the ice tonight. Andrew Takacs is also dressed tonight. Mason Kucenski is in the net for Saint Lawrence tonight.

Tonight was a good win for Colgate.
We did what we had to do.
Nothing more. Nothing less.

When it was 4-2 near the end of the game and Saint Lawrence pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, they easily could have made it 4-3. But Reid Dyck again came through. More than once.

Saint Lawrence had no sustained effort before that in the game. None.

I believe ten Colgate players had points on those four goals, with Brett Merner being the only one to double up with a goal and an assist.

And Isiah Norlin is joining Antonio Fernandez as one of my fave scorers. As defensemen. he he he

Clarkson had been struggling lately but they had an impressive win over Cornell last night. Should be a good measuring stick for us tonight.
 
Saw most of Clarkson’s win over the Big Red. It was mostly a 1-1 game until the Golden Knights exploded in the third period. You don’t see Cornell pummeled like that very often. Should be a good one tonight for Gate. I wonder if the Clarkson band will be in attendance?

There isn’t much to say, in my opinion.
We played a good game tonight, but not a great game. Their fifth goal was an ENG and their fourth goal, an unassisted one, was just a gift from us. Otherwise we played them even up.

As for the weekend as a whole, they swept at home, and we got a split on the road (as did Cornell). Saint Lawrence came out the big loser.

It’s now time for the holidays…
 
Wanted to highlight a commit who is doing fantastic things in the OHL this year. 07 G Matthew Minchak has been spectacular for the Kingston Frontenacs. GAA 2.33 (3rd in OHL, 2nd in rookies) and save % of .928 (1st in OHL) in 15 games. Unfortunately his record is 5-7-1-1, mainly because his team is offensively challenged. He made 42 and 43 saves respectively in games on 11/29 and 12/3 (against two of the best teams in the league) but still lost both in regulation. He's giving them a chance to win every night, with goal support he could be dominant. The other superstar rookie G in the league, Penn St commit Ryder Fetterolf, is stealing a bit of the spotlight since his team does give him goal support, so I wanted to show him some love for a great performance so far.

Also, 06 G Sam Caulfield has recently signed with Baie Comeau Drakkar in the QMJHL after mediocre numbers in the USHL. BC is a struggling team being kept afloat by a great goalie in NHL drafted Lucas Beckman, who is out for a few weeks. They called up a rookie to backup their rookie backup, but then had a week off, during which they picked up Caulfield. Seems to be a change of scenery for Caulfield and the immediate need for the Drakkar. If a contender trades for Beckman, Caulfield could end up starting for the rest of the year. TBD how it goes- he probably starts tomorrow.

Clarksons 4th goal was early in the 3rd period. They were "full court pressing us" and we turned it over trying to clear, giving the Clarkson skater a point-blank shot at the net, which they scored.

Clarkson's 3rd goal game with 13 seconds left in the 2nd period. You never want to give up a goal just before intermission. Thankfully we scored 20 seconds into the 3rd to tie it, only to give up the aforementioned turnover less than 2 minutes later.

And so we go into the holiday break at 6-10-2. Unfortunately, this is worse than I expected us to be at this point in the season. But we've turned things around after the break in prior seasons. The ECAC looks to be competitive again this season, so every league game will count. Especially when the 1st round of the playoffs is single elimination when the 2nd round is best-of-3.
 
All in all, a somewhat disappointing first half to the season...did have to play Clarkson at a bad time (IMO they've underachieved), and rest of league is schizo (see Union,Princeton, etc.)...hopefully we get more scoring from our forwards and climb a little...BUT we've yet to play Cornell and Q-Pac...top four looks very iffy at this point...
