Colgate 2023-24

all-time record vs. Cornell is 62-89-17

From February 2005 through February 2020, we were 5-25-7 against the Big Red.

Because of the Covid pandemic, Colgate and Cornell went almost 2 full calendar years without playing each other. But since February 2022, we're 4-3-2 against Cornell, with 3 of those wins coming in Ithaca!

I watched both games on ESPN+ this weekend. Until Friday night I didn't know we had 2 injured defensemen. That certainly has contributed to our win-loss record this season. But this team never quits. After losing at home in front of a large student crowd, we beat the Ithacans in their barn by the same score! If we go on a winning streak in 2024, this win will help us in the Pairwise.

The exam/holiday break couldn't have come at a better time, as it allows us to hopefully come back with a healthy roster. Now can we win more games at home please?

Happy Holidays!

Only thing that wasn't fun about last night's game was the drive back to Hamilton in the fog. Would've rather had a snowstorm!

Props to the Cornell crowd, they do a great job... makes it that much more fun to watch them file out after the empty netter. Carter told me after the game (there were beers in Hamilton late in the night) how pumped up he gets to play in that atmosphere, can certainly understand why!

Had a committment last night so got home and watched the third. Thought we outplayed them and saw no size advantage. From what I saw, a different Raider team from the night before. Always special to beat Cornell. Almost time to watch Joe Flacco and the Brownies.

I feel like I’m in withdrawal (both men’s and women’s)! My very best wishes to my fellow posters for an amazing holiday! Also, to our fabulous men’s team - I wish you the best in your finals and final papers! Go’gate!

Some nice surprises so far this year, biggest to me, Ryan McGuire. Last year's stats...GP 40 four goals and six assists for ten points. This year nine goals and five assists for fourteen points in just sixteen games. Wonder what changes he's made ?

He’s probably getting more ice time. He’s got a couple of SHGs and PPGs. Is he on the first PP unit? I don’t think he was last year.

Last year the Young brothers carried a lot of ice time, so Magoo is probably spot on with Ryan getting more this season.

Since we are giving mid-year shout-outs, I have really enjoyed watching our Minnesota Mafia this season… Nick Anderson (Independence), Tommy Bergsland (Wayzata), Brett Chorske (Edina), Owen Neuharth (Savage) and Jake Schneider (Plymouth). Hopefully that pipeline to Hamilton, N.Y., will continue to operate for years to come.

Here we go again... as of December 19, 2023...
PairWise Ranking (PWR) for ECAC Hockey amongst 64 teams (reminder... 16 teams qualify for the NCAA tournament)...

2-Quinnipiac,

21-Cornell, 28-Clarkson, 39-Union, 42-Dartmouth, 44-Colgate, 46-Harvard, 48-Princeton, 54-Saint Lawrence, 55t-Brown, 55t-Yale, 58-RPI.

P.S. - Due to Amtrak miscommunication, I never made it to Abbotsford at Palm Springs. So, arena #140 awaits. Sadly, I have already seen Omaha at (Orono) Maine.

P.P.S. - I am all set for Colgate at Maine, January 5-6. If anyone would like to go with me, just let me know. I can pick you up and drop you off.

Hoping everyone has a very Merry Xmas and happy holidays ! Should be very interesting with the closeness of the standings. Go Browns !

couple of points...Alex Young, albeit on a good ASU team, is not exactly lighting it up for the Sun Devils...hopefully we enter the new year in good health, especially on the back end...and, off topic, get healthier on the offensive line Brownies and we may be a tough out going forward...gotta believe...everyone, have a happy and healthy holiday...

Merry Christmas to all the faithful 'Gate keepers-of-the-flame on this site!!

Let's hope our team continues to rest-n-rehabilitate for a strong second-half run, so we end up at .500 hockey or better in Mike Harder's first season as head coach.

The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA)/Olympic Center (OC) should be embarrassed…
I am at their inaugural Adirondack Winter Invitational in Lake Placid, N.Y., and all 12 ECAC Hockey jerseys are hung with care, with their championship years listed below. Colgate’s sub-banner? 1990.
For shame!

The team left today. Safe travels to them and to Iowa! Can’t wait for the weekend and 4 ‘Gate men/women games - all tough opponents. Go ‘gate!!!

Thanks, Barb! I leave in the morning and will overnight near Dartmouth. Just taking backroads for the most part. Then both nights in Orono near the University. P.S. - I sent you two emails last weekend when on the road to, and in, Lake Placid. It sounds like you didn’t get them. Dang!

Tough weekend to start the New Year. As mentioned before, PWR #1, and #7 in the polls. Maine is led by the Nadeau brothers, two frosh frenchman who are #1 and #2 in scoring. ESPN+ is televising the games, plus the women's games. Women at 6:00 tonight and 3:00 tomorrow vs Clarkson.

Looks like the Browns are resting everyone this weekend getting ready for the playoffs.
