Colgate 2023-24

Love to read about your adventures, IOWA. Seems like you had a great season :D!! Sorry and surprised to see Ryan McGuire leave. Happy for Ross Mitton going to UMaine. Seems like a great fit for him. Go 'gate!!

It appears that Colgate will travel to UConn’s fairly new arena (with cracks already in its concrete) this coming season for two non-conference games as part of its reciprocal agreement.

It is my understanding that the transfer portal closes tonight at Midnight meaning that you basically have what you have at this point forward for 2024-25

Well it does have a little bit of hockey impact as, at least in the renderings, it looks like once this is done Starr Rink will be gone....Hasn't been the Raiders home in a while but I spent many a raucous weekend evening there...

Before we wrap 2023-24 I would be interested in hearing what the gurus on this site see for Gate men's hockey with the avalanche of new recruits arriving in the next 2-3 years. Is it an upgrade, status quo, a drop off or a wait and see? Can we expect to be fighting for a playoff spot each year? When googled some of these guys coming in seem pretty good...but I follow the women's game more where there are fewer players so it's easy to get solid info. Here it's tougher so I know less.

[TD="align: left"]Dear Alumni, Families, and Friends of Colgate Men’s Hockey:

Campus is quiet, the village farmers’ market is bustling, and the golf course is in perfect shape. Life is good here in beautiful Hamilton. During these calm months, we have been busy building our already strong program.

Thanks to your generosity, we are making significant locker room updates that we are excited to show off when you are back in town for a men’s hockey home weekend or for our annual Terry Slater Memorial Golf Tournament / Outing and men’s hockey weekend, Sept. 6–7.

As you know, we have moved the TSMGT to September, shortly after classes start, so our current players can join in on the fun, with the goal of this being a bonding opportunity for all.

We are finalizing the details of the weekend, but here’s what we’re thinking so far:
  • Friday night social
  • Open skate for alumni
  • Open team practice
  • Terry Slater Memorial Golf Tournament / Outing at Seven Oaks
  • Men’s hockey community tailgate
  • Colgate Football vs. Villanova
Stay tuned for more details coming soon, including registration. In the meantime, make arrangements to return to Hamilton now. We’ve secured hotel blocks at both the Colgate Inn and Hotel One75.

On the hockey front, the landscape of NCAA sports continues to change rapidly. We continue to monitor changes to NIL (name, image, and likeness) regulations and the impact of major court cases like House v. NCAA, but we remain focused on what sets Colgate athletics apart from our peers. We recognize that you all, our alumni and supporters, are what bring value to our program and expansive network. Student-athleteswill stay here and want to graduate because of the unique connection we — and they — will feel to Colgate.

Hope to see you the weekend of Sept. 6–7, and until then, go, ’gate!

Warmly,

Mike Harder ’97
