Colgate 2023-24

Two D who are going Uml next year are we getting solid players

I think you are getting two solid D-men. Anderson is undersized and more offensively minded. He is good on the point on the power play. Brandon is more the traditional stay at home d-man although he diversified his game a bit this year putting up 15 points.

Wishing them the best at Lowell.

Marmot, totally agree with you. Although I hate to see them go, I look forward to seeing what they can do for UMass Lowell. Separate subject, but… how did Alex Young’s season at Arizona State go? I saw him at the inaugural Adirondack Winter Invitational at Lake Placid and I didn’t think that he got much ice time (and, when he did, he didn’t do much).

I just got back from Springfield, Mass., and Providence, R.I., Regionals and really enjoyed them. Next year, I won’t be able to do the double as they will be in Allentown, Penna., and Manchester, N.H.

This Thursday, I will pick Clarkson Doug up and we will head for the Twin Cities via northern Ontario. We will be joined by Alaska Mike and Dartmouth Doug in Saint Paul, Minn., for the Frozen Four. I will be cheering on Boston College and Denver to meet in the title game. Hopefully it will be an East vs. West finale.

According to https://gopherpucklive.com/transfer-portal/ Jacob Napier (Western Michigan University, defense) is transferring to Colgate. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/527201/jacob-napier

This is good news! We only had 7 defensemen on the roster last season, and one of them (Nic Belpedio) was sidelined with an injury in the back half of the year. Of those 7, 2 of them (Pierson Brandon and Nick Anderson) are graduating, so this gives us 6 d-men next season before counting incoming first-years.

Another defenseman transfer to Colgate. Antonio Fernandez from Colorado College. Both he and Napier have three years of eligibility remaining.

Weren’t we only bringing in 2 D-men for next year? Good that we’re getting 2 more.

We’ve had some tough losses through the portal but we also got Irwin and Chorske and now Napier and Fernandez from the portal. We’ll miss McGuire but I’m optimistic for next year. We’ve got a lot of good players returning.

Well, another season is officially in the books for me...
56 hockey games, including the Lake Placid (N.Y.) ECAC tourney, Springfield (Mass.) and Providence (R.I.) NCAA Regionals and the St. Paul (Minn.) NCAA Frozen Four.
This past weekend was a lot of fun in the Twin Cities, as I saw several fans on the Club level from Omaha and even Colgate's friend from Boston (cheering on BC).
I now look forward to May 14, when I believe that the door to the transfer portal closes for the off-season.
And I look forward to Colgate releasing its 2024-25 non-conference slate (or, at least, our opponents releasing their dates including 'Gate).
Were some of our 2023-24 OOC dates scheduled as part of reciprocal agreements? We shall see...
