Colgate 2022-23

Red, okay.
I get so tired of my team trying to just dump the puck out of our defensive zone when we have a lead, when being aggressive is what got us the lead in the first place. Omaha did it regularly and I have seen Colgate do it numerous times. Glad tonight wasn’t one of them.
Thanks.

They were exhausted, the timeout was warranted. Harvard skated the last two+ mins with their goalie pulled, we were just trying to hang on. We just couldn't quite do it. If someone said before the game we would lose in OT, I guess maybe I'd be ok with that, but, holding leads of 2-0, and 4-2 in the third, it was disappointing. At least we got a point staying in fourth by five points.

Well that was a fun game to watch… for 59 minutes.

There was a good Colgate fan base in the rink, we had leads of 2-0 and 4-2, and skated with a talented team. From my vantage point it looked like the tying goal deflected off one of our skaters and into the net - the lucky kind of bounce you want when you’re on offense, but not on defense.

I agree with other posters regarding the lack of timeout called. We iced the puck with under 3 mins to go, no TO. Then we ice it with 59 seconds left - no TO called. Perhaps Don thought the skaters on the ice were the right ones to take the faceoff and match up against Harvard’s top forwards?

We at least got a point in the standings and hold a tiebreaker over Harvard now. Just put this game in the rear view mirror and focus on Dartmouth tonight.

Maybe we had already taken our timeout earlier ? Just wondering, I don't remember ?

Don't forget, Harvard has Fifteen NHL draft picks on their roster including Hejduk and Langenbrunner, sons of great NHL players. Beat Dartmouth tonight !

Yeah last night was a tough one but what I take away from it is that we can now compete with every team in our league. When was the last time we could say that?

Am sitting in Knoxville, Iowa, watching tonight's game. Or, I should say, trying to watch the game.
Is anybody else having touble with the ESPN+ broadcast?
At least 20 times in the first period, I received the message, "We are unable to play this video at the moment. Please try again later."
I have to refresh the screen, or back out and come in again.
Either way, I am missing 20-30 seconds of the game each time I have to do that.
Naturally, it is working fine for the commercials between periods.
Frustrating.

Colgate 12, Dartmoth 11, Faceoffs won after one.
Colgate 16, Dartmouth 8, SOG after one.
Colgate 0, Dartmouth 0, score after one.

Dartmouth announcer stated that Colgate's PK effort is 14th in the nation this season (with three short-handed goals).

It appears that Alex Young scored late in OT to allow Colgate to win, 3-2.
Unfortunately, my broadcast was still acting up so I didn't see Dartmouth's tying goal nor Colgate's OT winning goal.
Dang!

I didn’t have any problems with ESPN+ tonight Iowa. Sorry to hear that you did.
Final was 4-3 Colgate with Alex Young winning it in OT. Frustrating weekend. We came within inches of getting 6 points but only get 3. But for a while it looked like we were going to get zero points tonight. So let’s take the 3 points and hopefully figure out how to close games out in regulation.

Didn’t think the WIH game was ugly. Outshot them almost 2-1. Some great goaltending on both ends; unfortunate breakaway goal by H in waning seconds. That Katie Chan can fly!

Credit to ‘Gate for hanging with the Crimson and their gaggle of draftees, but in the end it was our game to lose. Not impressed with last night; another blown lead with poor discipline in the last minute to a 4-17 team, but glad to be above .500 for a change. Not sure which team will show up on any given weekend, home or away.

probably shouldn't mention this, but...since opening two-game home sets with Northern Michigan and Vermont we are 7-0-1 at home...and six points next week would be great, especially with a Cornell home and home impending...

I don't like the fact that you only get two points for an OT win.

If the winning team were to get 3 points for an OT win then the losing team would get 0 points. Assuming a max of 3 points awarded per game.

The problem with giving an overtime winner 3 points IMO is the structure of the overtime itself...3 X 3 hockey is a far cry from the normal game and teams like Harvard (and to some extent even Colgate) have an advantage from a skill standpoint in overtime...4 X 4 might be better, but then you'd end up with fewer overtime decisions...the current system isn't perfect, but I think an equitable distribution of desserts...I believe that if we had not given up the two EAGs in the weekend we'd be in second place right now...two of our best defensive players were both -3 against Dartmouth...and I will say the Big Green have lost a lot of close games this year...

Following up from above...if you count Dartmouth's 4-2 loss to Princeton as a one-goal loss due to an empty net goal they have lost TEN games (out of 17 losses) by one goal...

But the OT loser gets 1 point now. Previously you got zero points if you lost in OT.

Similarly, the NHL uses regulation wins as its first tiebreaker for this very reason. 3x3 gives you more opportunities to score goals than 5x5. But in the 2015-16 season, the first season the NHL used 3x3 OT, they included overtime wins in the first tiebreaker. The Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins were tied in points. The Bruins won the head to head with the Red Wings. The Bruins had more total wins. The Bruins had more regulation wins. But Detroit had more "regulation and overtime wins combined" than the Bruins. The Red Wings had 9 OT wins that season and that alone gave them a tiebreak over the Bruins for a final playoff spot. I'm not bitter about it though because the Bruins collapsed at the end of that season, finishing 3-8-1 and didn't deserve to be in the playoffs.
