Re: Colgate 2014-15

A big shout out to GR for tonight's broadcast. He kept it interesting right up to the end, even though we were down 4-1.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Sigh ... it was Colgate day, there was a great Colgate crowd, and the pep band even made the trip out to Harvard (and they'll be at Dartmouth tomorrow night too), but we still lost. Giving up a goal with POINT ONE second left in a period was an absolute back-breaker. Two players don't make a team, but we were dynamically different without both Finn and Goulakos. We don't know how long Finn will be out; I hope it's not serious. Spiro was on the bench again playing "assistant coach", so I'm hoping this means he's getting closer to returning. Meanwhile, our offensive struggles continue. Three games with ALL of our forwards healthy, but only 5 goals. We need to score if we're going to win.

Unfortunately, with the weather situation here in New England, I won't be going to Dartmouth tomorrow. But here's hoping for a win to get back on track...

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Hi! A Harvard guy roaming the forum but I noticed uncertainty about Harvard-Cornell Saturday. The game was moved from 7PM to 4PM. I do hope your guys stay over in Hanover Saturday night. Not sure what the forecast is there but on the coast south of Boston where I live they are expecting 12" to 16" of snow and wind to 76mph!!!

Not sure about all of you but I would not want to see a busload of kids I cared about traveling in a bus with wind like that. Good luck at Dartmouth and for a safe trip home. (or "slan abhaille" and my grannie used to say)

Re: Colgate 2014-15

TY for the concern Veritas. I guess everyone is as dissappointed as I am hence no posting being done here. I actually turned the video stream off after the goal was scored with one tenth of a second left in the second.

Hard to fathom, same team as last year with some pretty good frosh added in, we looked terrible last night. First goal was a shot from the blueline(or a dumpin) not sure, Harvard guy beats our dman to the puck and scores from just about the goal line on a roofed shot. It was a tremendous shot but should not have scored from there, should not have beat the dman either. Second goal was a fairly good tipin I guess about two minutes later and here we are again playing catchup.

On the third goal our two dmen were standing in front of Hamilton like fenceposts guarding the front of the net and Vesey found a streaking wing that had absolutely noone covering him backdoor with a tapin to a completely wide open net. Another goal in the last minute of a period, one tenth of a second left. Off went the tv.

Hamilton wasn't bad, maybe the first goal was soft but we can't blame him, he was ok, considering.

Our offense has all but disappeared, why has Don broken up the Cornwall line, Spink, Baun and Spink. The Spinks look lost out there now, they need to get back together. My guess is that Don is trying to balance the first two lines, putting Baun with Borokowski and I guess Murphy, it ain't working. Murphy is doing nothing at all besides getting stupid penalties, he could have got called for slewfooting last night, I guess he got interference.

Somehow with all the upsets last night we're still in it, three points out of third, time is running out on this underachieving team. (Feeling very blue today)

Re: Colgate 2014-15

You are exactly right shabby. Not many positives to say, another quality opponent and another loss in a game we were never even in. We use to be cheering on the teams behind us in the PWR to increase our rpi but they have all surpassed us now. I have ruled out a top 4 finish based on the way we have been playing and am hoping to finish 5-6th so we have brown or princeton at home. On paper Clarkson and Cornell should lose tonight so if we show up tonight and win it would help a lot. Unfortunately, the big green is undefeated in their last 6 and have been scoring at a high rate. Could be a 0 point weekend with 4 games left.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Top four finish isn't out of the realm but they, if gate, Cornell and RPI win tonight it will be a wash for almost the entire "middle of the pack mess".

I want to see the offensive pressure even if we leave the d open, we need to score

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I beat you, shabby...regrettably turned off the video after the 2nd goal.
Re-watched our EAG and GWG from last year's trip to LP. That team hasn't showed up this year. There is no moxie, no speed, no tenacity, no aggression. With all but a few players returning, it is mindboggling that we are doing this poorly. We are the team that couldn't rise to the challenge of being a preseason favorite and instead turned into Cinderella's pumpkin. We need a morale boost!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

3-0! Congrats to Hamilton on the s/o! Nice to have win #16!
Stopped the bleeding and got the morale boost we desperately needed in a big way. Good game for Colgate, perhaps not the best for Dartmouth, but a win is a win.
Safe drive home for everyone!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

congratulations to Zac Hamilton on the shutout! Nice to know we are balanced in net to keep going when the starter is out. Would still love to see the explosiveness of our offense return this year down the stretch. These boys need to dig in and get hungry.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

The weather kept me from going to tonight's game, but I'm glad to see we won. Even better, we shut the other team out. Even WAY better, we finally scored 3 goals in a game for the first time since the Union game back on Jan. 17! Perhaps we've turned a corner?

We climbed to 6th with the road split (compare to last week when a home split dropped us to 8th). But we're 3 points out of 4th, and Harvard has the tiebreaker over us. We do, however, have the tiebreaker over Dartmouth.

Side note: we also played Dartmouth (in Hanover) on Valentine's Day in 2009, also winning by shutout (1-0).

Re: Colgate 2014-15

We're one point out of fifth, two points out of fourth, and three points out of third. (alone in 6th) Everyone above us has to play each other in the next two weeks, we have Yale but the other three are below us. Last night's win was huge, I think three wins gets us a bye, and maybe even two.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Not sure a bye is realistic as we haven't proven we can beat a ranked team this season, even whey they have a short bench (Harvard). Home ice in the prelim round seems possible, and maybe Spiro will return. Had we lost the game, we would have to look no further than the missed 5x4/3 power play for 5 minutes, sheesh. Good teams capitalize but we kept our composure.

Athletics page needs to proofread better...(Coglate). Still bitter about yesterday's bball loss at home! Makes the tiebreaker to Bucknell meaningless!

Anything is possible. There is parity in this league. You have probably the easiest schedule left based on this seasons results with three games of the four against teams with losing records, and you should match up with Yale pretty well given your team speed. Three teams control their own destiny. Q has pretty well sewn up the Cleary Cup with a 6 point lead and only 8 points left. SLU has a tough remaining schedule with hungry Harvard and Dartmouth at home and Cap District away. Then there is Yale that has Q/PU and CU/CU.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Having 3 of our last 4 regular season games against teams in the bottom four of the league is both a blessing and a curse. If we sweep next weekend, we clinch at least a 1st-round home series. But if the teams directly in front of us (Dartmouth and Harvard) also sweep, we'll still find ourselves on the outside looking in for a bye, which is what I'd prefer.

Meanwhile, "Spiro watch" is officially on, now that it's been 4 weeks since his injury. Hopefully we can get Finn back next weekend, although Hamilton has proven himself as a capable goaltender after last night.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Just what the HELL is going on here?

The situation was set up perfectly with Dartmouth College looking for its seventh straight win in front of former Big Green players from the last team to accomplish the feat in the 1978-79 season.
Instead it was Colgate netminder Zac Hamilton who was perfect, stopping all 22 shots he faced, and Dartmouth’s six-game winning streak Saturday with a 3-0 ECAC hockey decision at Thompson Arena in Hanover.

Your backup goalie shut out Dartmouth? There I was, thinking we had a chance ..... :(

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Yes Hamilton has played well for us and I have no doubt the players believe they can win with him in net. I saw him play earlier against Yale (3-1 loss for 'gate). He faced 41 SOG and the last one was an ENG, so overall a phenomenal performance for your first start against a high power offensive team like Yale. He let in 4 against Harvard and then shutout Dartmouth last weekend which is also impressive if you look at as only 4 goals allowed on the road. All things considered those are three quality opponents (3-5) in the standings right now so he has done well.

We just need our offense to show up more consistently and we can win. It is well noted that we have struggled again and again against top teams. By my count we are 0-7 against teams in the top 15 of the Pairwise (Frustrating). If you change that to just 2-5, we are on the right side of the bubble. However, we are also 8-2-2 against teams 16-30 in the pairwise with our losses being Cornell at Starr and at SCSU. Believe it or not this puts us at 16th in the pairwise under the old system because of the TUC factor. 4 huge games left including at Yale. If we finish strong we may only need one win at LP with some luck to get in. 3 or more points this weekend is a must.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

So, in order to secure a home ice first round game we need 2 points (including RPI's results and 2 points including Union's results).

And as has been stated before we are 3 points out of 3rd and 2 behind 4th. This is just a guess but I figure if we win 3 games we can get a bye. Both harvard and Dartmouth have the north country and then have QU. They could easily lose a couple of those games. Obviously we want harvard to lose more than Dartmouth since we have the tiebreaker.

Lets have a good and healthy stretch run

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Spiro said it best after last weekend's shutout: "We're Back." Fingers crossed.
The game against RPI @ HFH...where did that Engineer team come from that night? Who's to say it won't show it's head again at Starr? Any given night, you never know.
