Re: Colgate 2013-14

If keeping the bands intact is a rule, which I think it is, they should stick by it. Otherwise its back to the smoke-filled room mentality of forty years ago. If you were around then, you never want to go back to it.
Even though Cornell was screwed twice by being sent out West to play at the home barns of both Minnesota (overtime loss) and Wisconsin (triple overtime loss), I agree. If you think the ECAC is getting screwed now, you don't want to see the results when committee representatives from the Big Ten and Hockey East start baking "intangibles" into seeding.

The sport is actually about 80% of the way to having a genuine tournament rather than just a beauty pageant for jock schools. We don't want to go back to the bad old days.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Don't forget the "Cornell Rule", they stay ranked no matter what and never drop more than two spots even when they get swept.

If by ranked you means polls then who cares, they don't matter. If by ranked you mean PWR then math called, it said you don't understand it.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

USCHO article w/ Coach Vaughan talks about Mihalek being a team player with regard to having Finn play despite his own seniority. Think he was in those same shoes at one time. At this point in the season, being sentimental isn't a priority. My guess is Eric would like a ring or a banner to play for even if it means biting the bullet.

Groundbreaking for the new arena still a year + away. Feels like eternity ;-)

You're the one that didn't get it, let me help you, USCHO Poll.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

BTW Colskate, I like the fact that you tossed an idea out there, brought some banter here, always good !

Kind of a trap game tonight, we only beat them 4-2 with an ENG. Hope we're ready to play.

Then the point stands, who cares? It doesn't mean anything in the tourney rankings. It's just a media outlet drawing clicks.

Polls suffer from a ton of perception problems. They're for pure irritainment value only.

TY. Just trying to get this thread to 1000 posts & encourage some controversy. LOL.

I agree about the trap game but think Sat night might be dicey. Dartmouth is on a roll right now, although being "Senior Night" the team should be putting out 100%, especially if Mihalik is in goal.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Let's remember mihalik hasn't been bad this year, Finn has just been out of his mind. And given Vaughn's comment about Eric I am am impressed with his maturity and remembers what he did as a freshman.

As far as the new rink is concerned I am disappointed. When they asked for 25 mil it was my impression that architects were already hired (heck there was an artist rendering). I understand not wanting to start building before you got 25 mil, but not to even have a plan seems misleading.

Keep in mind that they did have an original plan in place to put the new rink on the site of the "Buildings and Grounds" building that is right next to the Reid Athletic Center. Ultimately however that plan proved too costly so the actual building site needed to be moved . A new site needed to be found and the one that was selected was the current site of Van Doren Field, right next to Sanford Field House and the parking lots at Andy Kerr Stadium. Then I'm guessing some modifications had to be made to the original plans because you're dealing with a smaller actual amount of building space due to the houses that are around the Van Doren Field site - both the back of the fraternity houses and the ones across the street.

I would rather have the folks that are working on this take their time and get it right rather than rush through the process and get something built just to have it built. A new rink is coming - we just need to have some patience.

Bingo. If I were going to donate money to a school that was looking to build something, I would want to have a good in-depth look of what they wanted to build. Heck, when my girlfriend and I were at Starr a couple weeks ago, I would have loved to have seen rendered drawings of what your new rink was going to look like in a very conspicuous location on my way to our seats. I was disappointed.

And if Charlie Finn doesn't receive some sort of "most improved" award, the committee that selects it are out of their mind. Although he let in three in November against my team (including that 130-footer), it was good to see his improvement.

I'm hopeful about the new rink. The size and dollar constraints can work in your favor, if you have a good plan. The best barns in the country are more far intimate and interesting (and intimidating) than the cookie cutter "NHL at 30% scale" white elephants. You only have to look at Clarkson to see what can go wrong if you have too much money and space.

The artist's rendering looks very much like Bright, which is probably the best of the "modern"-ish rinks.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

If we manage a split tomorrow and tie w/ Qpac for second...where do we stand?
Crimson played a good game and we just couldn't finish.
This is what happens as soon as you get national attention

Re: Colgate 2013-14

We clearly outplayed them. They got a flukey goal for their first one and the second was a sniper. Is it a bad loss? Of course but the play was good. We dominiated the 1st and 3rd, absolutely dominated.

I am obviously more worried about the at large NCAA bid, but this is a good hockey team and I like what I see.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

If we tie QU we are seeded #2. Yale can no longer be in the top 4 (loses both tiebreakers to CU AND CLARKSON)

Re: Colgate 2013-14

The Harvard goalie stole 2 points from us tonight. That's what happened. It's only the 2nd time this season where we allow fewer than 3 goals and lose. It's only the 3rd time this season where we draw first blood but lose.

Fortunately, we got some help from other league members. As a result, as long as we win tomorrow, we finish 2nd. We also can't fall lower than 3rd. This means if we make it to Lake Placid, we will most likely play in the LATE semifinal game.

Lastly, who'd-a thunk that FOUR ECAC teams tonight would pitch shutouts, all on the road?

Were we watching the same game??

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I thought we had the better of the play but not domination, Michalek stole the game, he is big and very good. He stoned us a few times. Outshoot them 9-2 in the third but they sneak one in to get the win. Gotta win tonight and Dartmouth is hot, won't be easy, I will be very disappointed if we get swept, no way to enter the playoffs. I think the PWR takes care of itself if we win.

Refereeing was very iffy, but this is the ECAC, used to it sadly.
