Re: Colgate 2013-14

I think the stats are wrong, says 38 games, 80 goals, 4.46 GAA. That would be about 2.1 GAA without doing the math. Something wrong there.

GA is based on minutes played not games. While Racine has played in 38 games he has only played 1076 minutes which is roughly 18 games (17.933...). So GA is accurate

95 G Zac Hamilton (Westminster) commits to Colgate. A wily prep veteran by now, Hamilton's another good stopper headed to the ECAC.

Another recruit for Colgate.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Big result tonight. Caught the second on streaming radio (thank you as always GR) on the way home and the third on the overprice Ivy Network. Big because with Cornell stealing their game at Q tonight we are tied for 2nd. But even more it seemed like the book on Colgate this year was play gritty/cheap and you can disrupt the raiders. Worked very effectively for both RPI and Union last week and seemed to be working for Princeton this week. The boys kept their composure (in all three games) and when the opportunity arose tonight they took full advantage. The score tonight looks bad on paper. In real time it looked worse. At least two of the Raiders goals were at the "i dropped your pants in front of the girl you like and her pretty older sister too" embarrassment level and almost the entire third period was a Colgate shooting gallery. It won't end the rough stuff we've been dealing with over the past month or so but it's going to give teams pause. Play rough and take your chances of dealing with a penalty kill v. play rough and run the risk of getting flat out stomped are two very different calculations.

Tomorrow's going to be a doozy. Q outshot Cornell like 36 - 14 and lost 2-1. Colgate better come ready to play - carelessness with the cute stuff could prove very costly.

Finally - Teacher Bill - agree that Racine's numbers aren't great but, with the exception of goal scorers, I don't think stats mean much of anything in terms of determining a player's value in the next level. Racine is playing for a bad team in a good league - really impossible to tell where he stands on paper because you can't tell whether the defense in front of him is decent or dogs. Same goes for D-men - most leagues don't keep +/- which would be a bit of a tell but still not reliable. All that said - tough not to be excited about Evan Peterson who is currently second in scoring (by a point) on the number 2 ranked team in Canada right now.

We need 1 point to ensure a bye - how about 2 at the Q? Go Gate!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

We actually need a combination of 3 points (a combination of our gained points and points lost by Yale). A win and a Yale tie gets us there, or a Yale loss (and clarkson tie) and a gate tie. If my math is wrong someone go for it.

Tonight's game is on NESN if you have Dish, if not Quinnipiac streams the game for free.:)

And it's amazing quality too. Watched the end of their game against Cornell last night. Challenges RPITV.

Tonight's a game with huge implications. A win would see us move into sole possession of second place. A tie and a loss by either Yale or Cornell would clinch a bye, and a tie and a loss by both would clinch third place. Let's hope we can get at least a point out of tonight and hope other things fall into place.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

56-25 SOG last night. That and the PIM difference really tell the story of that game.

I can't believe the discussions we're having about maybe taking 2nd place in the league, securing a top-4 bye, our separation from Yale, Cornell, etc. Guess I was really dumb to have doubts about this season; have to pinch myself that this is actually happening :) Coach was quoted that this is one of the best teams he's ever had - talent, character-wise and chemistry-wise. There's got to be a lot of chemistry in the locker room to make this happen with such a young team.

Yep. And the best part is, next year it's the same team, basically, but a year older.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Any word on Andrew Black after last night's hit? I didn't see the hit on the IvyLeagueNetwork feed. The camera operator had an obsession with the scoreboard!!!!!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

We lose one forward this year and have four coming in, and two goalies coming in also.

The hell with next year. This is the year NOW IS THE TIME.Take it from someone who's watching a final 4 team from last year (UC DIII) that lost only 5 seniors, 3 of which didn't even play all the time, that has almost no chance of getting an invite to the big dance. Just because you'll have the same players doesn't mean you'll have the same locker room or results. The talent on this team is really impressive and I'll take a win tonight instead of a tie. I know a point is better than nothing but I think this team still hasn't reached its full potential. 2 wins last weekend would have put them in the drivers seat for a bye and a 2nd place finish. I know 2 loses would have put them in catch up mode, but I see the glass half full with this team and they are going to surprise a lot of people from here on out. If they use their speed why can't they beat Q? Look who they're beaten already! Right now I think it's all a mental thing. The talent is there. Go 'Gate. WIN.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Great win!! We looked good. IMHO QU dominated much of the third period but we hung in there and got the win to go into seond place. Way to go guys! Go Gate!
