Re: Colgate 2013-14

I thought Cornell looked very slow, we were so much quicker to the puck. Still want to see the majors. Youtube maybe ?

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Well, that and at least half the shenanigans were initiated by 'Gate.

Our radio guy, who is usually pretty fair, tagged the McCarron call exactly as you did: things were getting very rough out there and the next guy who did anything was going to get A Statement. It happened to be one of our guys; it could easily have gone the other way. It was in a way poetic justice because there is no way we deserved to win that game, and we were getting momentum in the third and might have somehow turned it around if given enough chances (as we did for the first 'Gate game this year at Lynah).

Although you never, ever want to drop 2 points, particularly against a team you are fighting for a key slot, losing so horrendously was I hope a blessing in disguise, since nobody can fool themselves that the kind of effort we put in Saturday is acceptable. Colgate may have been the Lord's Vengeance that showed out guys they can't mail it in. Having that in combination with an opponent on fire and a terribly officiated game makes me thankful a given game can only count for one result.
Well if you guys want to mend any ill feelings between the 2 teams, I have a great idea that's a win win. Beat Union (Tee hee chuckle chuckle)

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Must be with Harvard's win we got another PW comparison, tied for fourteenth now:)

I suggest we both win out, just to keep things fair.

If that were to happen (spoiler: it won't), because we each still have both Q and U, that would give us at worst the following standings:

34 Uni
33 Col
32 Cor
31 Qpc

Clarkson also has both Q and U to go, so...

but it won't happen. I still think it would be a Good Thing for each of us to beat the hell out of our Friday opponent each week.

Works for me.

Go ahead and look towards that game. We'll be happy to repeat what happened at HFH. BTW, has your goalie learned how to stop 130 foot shots? :p;)

Last night's Beanpot results caused our RPI to rise and Maine's to fall. As a result, we now win the PWR comparison with Maine when on Sunday, we lost it. So we're tied for 14th, but after tiebreakers, we're still 15th and the "last team in".

Re: Colgate 2013-14

With UConn beating Providence last night we jumped over them to fourteenth by ourselves now:eek:

Re: Colgate 2013-14

The RPI team has a sickness bug running thru it right now, like we did a few weeks ago.

Gonna miss another weekend of great games. Looking forward to your analysis Shabby, Rainman, GR, etc. can't afford to overlook RPI on our way to Union...need to really bring it against both teams.r

Re: Colgate 2013-14

There is some "great ink" on Gate in the Union thread !!

Just for the record, Cornell, like us, had a great weekend against Brown and Yale (on the road no less) before playing Colgate. There was a lot of celebration in Ithaca among the faithful before facing Colgate. Here was a pre-game write-up before the Colgate matchup. I borrowed it from one of the Cornell Hockey Blogs. http://cornellhockeywaft.weebly.com/

The offense of the Raiders has improved to the degree of scoring 17.9% more goals per game. Colgate now comfortably averages more than three goals per game. Perhaps more startlingly, Colgate surrenders a modest 2.33 goals per game to its opponents in the second half as compared to the 3.53 goals allowed per game that the Raiders carried into Lynah Rink. Want to belabor a point? Colgate's power-play unit has converted on 25.0% of its power-play opportunities since the Raiders settled for a tie in Ithaca.

Colgate's special teams have increased on the defensive side of play as well. The Raiders's penalty kill has upticked from allowing conversion on 20.3% of opportunities allowed to since allowing opponents to convert on only 18.4% of opportunities. Colgate during its recent run of success, including a shootout win against Minnesota, has become a very difficult team against which to play.

Colgate's offense has become more balanced since the meeting in December. Prior to the December meeting, only seven skaters averaged more than one-tenth of a goal per game. Only Kyle Baun, Darcy Murphy, and Tylor Spink averaged more than 0.40 goals per game. Since the encounter on East Hill, 12 members of the Raiders now average more than one-tenth of a goal per game. High-end production has given way to a balanced attack. No player averages more than 0.50 goals per game now, and only Tylor Spink remains above 0.40 goals per game, but seven skaters average one-third of a goal per game or more. Spiro Goulakos has tied for second in terms of offensive production per game since the first game in the series.

Charles Finn between Colgate's pipes has gotten much better in addition to becoming Don Vaughan's de facto starter. His save percentage has improved from a 0.878 to a 0.922 since he held Cornell to two goals. Despite these performances, Colgate has averaged a scoring margin in its recent run of less than one goal per game in its favor.

Colgate is a great team this season and is a very difficult team to play against. Cornell is too. Cornell's offense has become more balanced. Every line from Ithaca has contributed over its last two series. Frankly, it is amazing to watch.

We have improved but so has the Cornell team we beat and the Colgate team we lost to. Hoping to see us at full strength and at our best this weekend. Time for Union College Hockey.

Go Dutchmen !!!!!
Here is the post with a 3rd hand assessment of Gate from your buddies at SUNY Ithaca. Gate is a real matchup problem for Union with their speed and physical play - very similar to U (compliment intended). I'm hoping its a great game and U can get a better result than the last time, but am not exactly counting on it. Goaltending could be big. ..and, yes Shabby, thanks for reminding us of THE STARR CURSE!!!!!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

In the RPI -Union vs Gate and Cornell thread the interview with Appert praises the team. He says he has watched much tape on us and in the last 5-6 games we're playing like a top five team and our PP is tremendous. Wonder how much Johnston being ou will hurt us.
