Re: Colgate 2013-14

I don't think so, but I'm sure there are many considerations to be had, including possible bonuses and the state in which it's being done, but I'll refrain from the political B.S. here. BTW, have they mentioned if it will be multi-purpose, or will the other parts of Reid still be used for other events? It was nice to poke my head into a volleyball game or other event going on during the intermissions.

Basketball is staying put at Cotteral and I believe volleyball is also...at least for the time being. You should be able to put your head in if you want to travel from the rink back to Reid.

At that point, it might be a little far. I did enjoy the volleyball game that I saw when the Colgate women were playing RPI.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

The game this weekend has turned into a huge game instead of what I thought was a schedule filler. Gate is #24 in the PWR and Vermont now is #13, since we don't play many Hockey East teams the H2H comparison will be very important in this game. Vt is unbeaten in ten of it's last eleven, we are 4-5-2 against the top twelve teams in the nation.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Also don't forget how we're 3-7 at home this year, and home losses are weighted by 1.2 when it comes to RPI calculation. We don't want a letdown after last weekend, but no game will be easy going forward.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Spiro being healthy again is very large. He hasn't been his old self, it's been six months since his last treatment and he's close to 100% again. He's the key on the PP. We need a big win and some momentum.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Didn't realize he had even left. What's the short story? Playing time, dissatisfied with Colgate, the coach...what? I thought Cadieux was star for Plattsburgh.
Wish Finney well up there in the North Country with the Cards, hate to see anyone leave Colgate.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I had noticed he wasn't dressing so I figured something might have happened. Probably saw the writing on the wall that Finn was the goalie from here on out with mihalik getting random starts

Re: Colgate 2013-14

We Won! At Home!
Congrats Colgate, gritty win tonight over a tough Vermont squad. Two pp goals against the 3rd ranked pk in the nation!
Thought the Cats got stronger as the game wore on...we looked rattled in the 3rd.
Finn was as strong as an ox after getting plowed; a bit surprised we didn't get a pp out of that last one?!?!
2014 looking good...one game at a time, Colgate! Keep it going!

Cadieux is an outstanding goalie for plattsburgh. He is still the #1 goalie but coach emery wanted to test Finney out for a game and see what he has. Cadieux is a senior and Finney may be the one to fill in his shoes starting next year.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Didn't see or listen to tonight's game, but a win is a win! Always nice to get a win at home for once, plus it adds to our quality wins bonus!

By the way, dating back to the Russian Red Stars game on Dec. 31, we've scored 6 power play goals in our last 20 chances (30% success rate). In my opinion, I think this may have to do with Spiro's return to full strength after all of the treatments he went through in the past year.

Back to league play now, hopefully the success we've had so far in 2014 can carry over!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

The strange thing is our "vaunted" PP won the game for us against the #3 PK team in the nation. We looked very good for two periods then hung on. Vt is a very talented team, a great win.

Am wondering, too, about Finn...the hits he received seemed, well...obviously being MVP last weekend worried Sneddon and his team had orders to rattle his cage! And for the sake of a debate, why is it customary to go after a player if they attack one of our own? I get the "brotherhood" mentality but it's the decision like that that almost cost us the game...we had a 4x4 coming instead of a 5x4 pp for Vermont. Very glad Goulakos is back and healthy.

Great crowd at MSG for Harvard/Yale!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

It looked to me from the far end that the Vt guy kinda got pushed into Finn after he scored. Hard to tell from where I was.

Protecting your goalie is part of the game. At that point, Finn I think had been run into or in the least bumped three or four times in the period (all in the third mind you) with the worst being on the Vermont goal at the start of the third when the goal scorer, Markison, plowed him over. Looking at the replay on the Colgate site, there is no push that I can see and the Vermont player just couldn't stop himself. I'm still surprised there wasn't a goaltender interference call on the play - I seem to remember when Mike McCann scored his first career goal on Cape Cod against Army, he ran over the goalie and was credited with the goal but also called for interference.

On the play I think you're referencing in particular, Harrison drew the initial penalty when he shoved down a Vermont player right after the whistle. Wilson and Bruneteau then got into a wrestling match as a "secondary altercation" after Harrison's shove on the other side of the crease and that's why both went off. Guessing Harrison may have gotten away with the shove if things hadn't heated up on the other side of the crease but knows. I hate to see Colgate concede a power play in that situation but at the same time, you stick up for your goalie. Maybe that wasn't the best time to get physical but again at that point, it seemed UVM was putting an emphasis on getting into the blue paint to rattle Finn.

Just my two cents.
