Re: Colgate 2012-13

Holy cow, is it October already?

Looking forward to another season. I like the posters' optimism (broadly speaking), though I agree it might take awhile for the young guys to get adjusted to D-I hockey.

Hopefully I'll get the chance to watch a bit on Tuesday night. In general, I agree with the poll locations, and I would happily take a 1st Round home series this year. Any competition they can give for the 1st Round bye with this young a team is good, though that might be unlikely. Have to keep faith if the start is slow (as expected)

Let's go 'Gate!

Re: Colgate 2012-13

A 1-0 win in an exhibition? Wasn't expecting that for a final score, but hey, it gave most of the players 60 minutes to get any kinks out and try out some line combinations. I personally like the following pairings:
-Bartliff/Bourdon
-Wilson/Lidgett
-Spink twins with another one of their Cornwall teammates (last night it was Kyle Baun)
-Long/Rivellini (though this didn't happen last night, we did have Rivellini/McCann paired up, which was common for a good part of last year)

I'm surprised Darcy Murphy and Spiro Goulakos didn't dress. Hopefully they were just healthy scratches. Keep in mind we'll only have one forward scratch a night. That said, I'm optimistic we can at least play well on defense given the number of returning players. Price, Larkin, Sinz, and Goulakos all saw regular playing time last year. Corcoran and Leidl have also logged some ice time, while Johnston and Lough will compete for roster spots (both were all-stars in juniors, hopefully this can translate to the college game?).

Look forward to your report Shabby.

Nice write-up about Joe Wilson on the INCH home page, FWIW. (sorry,...am not computer literate so can't figure out how to post link)

Re: Colgate 2012-13

A good test tonight, Niagara was 12-3-2 in second semester last year and returns eleven of twelve top scorers. Goalie is untested so far, they lost their #1 tender.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

As much as I care about Atlantic Hockey's OOC record... please destroy Niagara tonight. I hate them oh so much.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

That'll work. Will be interested to see how they react on a quick turnaround on the road against a big-time opponent.

But for opening night you really could not have asked for anything more . . .

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I guess the answer to the pre-season "Where will the scoring come from?" question is, for a game at least, "from freakin' everywhere!"

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Holy $**t! 10 goals??? Three came from freshmen, and three of our senior forwards had 2-goal nights. In addition, SIX of our freshmen recorded their first career points. I said to myself before the start of the season that our senior forwards would need to step up their game. Well tonight, they did.

On to Miami. This weekend should be a good early-season test.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Holy ****... a ten-spot?! Nice job guys! You better be through with that when I drive east on 20, though. ;)

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I wanted to see the freshman and they were just phenominal. They were even better than "I hoped for". I know it was only one game, but I'm having a hard time bringing myself back down to earth after watching last night's game.

Bartliff and Bourdon played tremendously, I didn't see any weakness from any of our three lines. Freshman defensemen were great, I have nothing negative to say. I am ecstatic !!

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I stand corrected... I think we have four lines every night that can match up with anyone. Transition play is a lot faster than I've seen in years. Just need to stay healthy and who knows what will happen. With Sullivan back to being a doubter, I'd love to see the boys prove him wrong once again.

Doubter in 09-10 -> 4th place
Picked us 2nd in 10-11 -> Dead last
Doubter in 11-12 -> 4th place

Really like the trend there.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

As a Niagara fan I am curious to hear from Colgate fans as to the goalies Niagara used. Drost the starter gave up 4 goals on 19 shots and Campbell came in after it was 4-1 and gave up 6 on 16 shots. Did they play that poorly or were they just left out to dry on most goals? It appears that Chubek who played in the opening tie with BGSU may have earned the #1 spot now after this debacle.
