Re: Colgate 2011-12

Wow. Already through one page. Can we make it to part II earlier this year? I'm gonna blame last year's regular season on the botched attempt at a first thread by someone that wasn't Shabby. That messed up our mojo. Looking forward to a strong start this Saturday.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I know it's only a scrimmage tomorrow, but I want to see line combinations for this year. No broadcast, anyone going over?

One area we have to improve on is the PP. I don't possibly see how we could be worse than last year. I'm predicting at least 15 more power play goals than last year-on the low end. That will create a couple of extra wins for us right off the bat. We were at 13.7 percent last year, 29 for 211. Another stat we have to improve on is the one goal game stat. We were 4-11 last year in one goal games.

I like your optimism Gaterrooter, but seeing is believing this year. Taking nothing for granted and no predictions.

Gotter, vis-a-vis Sox: I feel your pain :(

Mihalik is a sophomore this year and more experienced. That should help in the one-goal game dept.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I did and almost wish I didn't. Blew a three goal lead, had sixteen penalties, almost got out of control with the chippiness. At one point after a scrum, Kotyra talked to both benches as if to tell them this is an exhibition so keep it in perspective. Carleton not a bad team at all, some very good skaters, bigger forwards, we have not much size upfront. Lidgett and Wilson looked good, but small. Mihalik was great, it was Vaughan's first practice with the team, October 1 by NCAA rules. I wouldn't take too much out of this game.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Sorry to get this report Shabby. Guess we can be happy with the Fordham game however.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Hey Colgate folks! I'm planning on driving up with another young Miami alum for the games on the 14th and 15th. We've never been up to Hamilton and there seems to be a dearth of hotel options... any suggestions for a place to stay in or remotely close to town that weekend? :)

Yeah, it was kind of ugly, very very chippy as far as an exhibition goes. It is good practice though, and there were some positives- couple breakaways that could have ended it in OT, but it was the first game, and it showed.

Charging full price for it though was probably too much from the Athletic Department, I can understand it not being free, but charge $5 or something.

It's homecoming weekend, so it might be tough. I would suggest the Colgate Inn and if not, look for places in New Hartford and/or Utica. Oneida or Cazenovia might have places too and are not that far away.

Other option is Norwich, which is maybe a half-hour down Route 12.

Aren't exhibition games supposed to be free admission??? Even though it ended in a tie, at least the players got 65 minutes of skating time. And we learned to stay out of the penalty box.

Surprised Kurtis Bartliff was a scratch for the exhibition. Hopefully it was just illness or a healthy scratch, and not an injury.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Well, Carleton beat SLU 5-2, guess they are a good team. Softens the blow a little.

Miami fans....Oneida has Turning Stone Casino, 15 mins from Hamilton. You can stay there, and there are other hotels just outside the casino. If you golf bring your clubs, three unbelievable courses there and one in Hamilton...Seven Oaks. Nice restaurant at Seven Oaks too.

Also Utica 30 miles, Syracuse 45 miles, Rome 30 miles(15 minutes from casino, the leaves will be near peak so hope for good weather. Hamilton is a very small town in the middle of farmland, very hilly too. Colgate plays Cornell in football Sat afternoon also, you won't be dissappointed.

Check out TBRW 2012 a computerised site for ECAC predictions...very impressive. Many comparisons, has us fifth. Look for Ralph Baer on ECAC predictions thread and click on TBRW !

Thanks for the suggestions. Looking forward to the games!

I believe it's called the "Wendt Inn" just north of Hamilton - you might give them a try, altho may be booked for homecoming weekend. It's maybe a mile up 12B from the center of town. More like a motel than an Inn.

Very interesting Shabby. Nice to see us in 5th. Kind of wondering about RPI in 10th? Most folks in the "Pick the Standings" contest have the Engineers higher...but then again we are in the RPI geographic area..
