Re: Colgate 2010-11
Hey Shabby, how's it going. Long time since I've posted. Have been sitting back in the weeds, reading all this entertainment. Its more impressive than the Gate record. Heck, if this team was winning, you would only have 20% of the posts.
Alright, now I'm going to have my turn at this. This isn't anywhere as bad as being a Canadian Hockey fan, loyal to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The most profitable hockey club in the NHL, hasn't won a **** thing since 1967. I am attaching in bold my remarks from November. They haven't changed.
I always put the onus on the player, to become a strong leader on and off the Ice. Leadership skills can be developed as an underclassmen, by watching the Elders whom have played ahead of them. Some may have graduated, and some may be in there Senior Years, and hopefully this provides opportunity to garner more Ice Time when playing, and more opportunity in life outside of the game.
The experience gained may be both the positive's they have witnessed that works, or negative's that Haven't. Sometimes the negative's, are the greatest lessons.
There are no guarantee's in any event, however, creating your own opportunities will stay with you forever, even after hockey is over.
Colgate is an awesome Academic School, whom attracts strong gifted students for the most part.
The success of any team depends mostly on the quality of the sum of all the parts. Usually the most successful teams have great cohesiveness in the dressing room, however, that doesn't mean the leaders should just be granted that status. Leaders should be the hardest working components both on and off the Ice.
As parents, we should guide our children's success by there own development, and not the comparison to others.
In the big picture, these players will graduate with a degree from Colgate. Whats "fair", or not, is redundant.
Look at the NHL. If you look at the standings, whom would have predicted Tampa Bay may be in a position to make a good run for the Cup. But, from all reports, their dressing room is littered with great characters and charm. The New G.M., and head coach, whom rumour has it, may have brought open communication into a closed no communication coaching fraternity, the players on that team are making a significant difference.
Now look at other teams that were supposed to compete this year. Whats Wrong. Maybe Large Ego's or too much Compensation, ?? Who Know's.
The lesson, "Only you can make a difference". Its your choice.
It is disapointing when any team is losing, no matter what level or league. That being said, You have to rise above the problem, and look for solutions. Communicate to each other, try new things, and try and prevent from pointing fingers. Negativity has never brought positive resolve. We may not be happy in the U.S. with its current leadership, but to improve things usually falls back to "What Difference you can make, and collectively offering possible solutions."
On the recruiting complaints, remember, Colgate's requirements to get into the school, require strong academic achievements, and high S.A.T. results. Many other schools, more notably in other conference's, have significantly lower qualifications. Yes, they may have better results in recruiting quality athlete's, but the challenge they have is in fact keeping those same athlete's for the duration of the 4 years.
Working Together to achieve positive resolve, will eventually bring a positive outcome.
