Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Gate Radio have a question for you. After looking at the Blog and the current pro players list, can you tell me how many of the current Gate players have been drafted and by which teams? I know Brian Day, Austin Smith and Thomas Larkin were drafted, are there any others?

Thanks.

Shabby-just say when.

2010-2011 Draftees:

Brian Day- NY Islanders, 2006 6th round
Corbin McPherson- NJ Devils, 2007 3rd round
Austin Smith- Dallas Stars, 2007 5th round
Jeremy Price- Vancouver Canucks, 2009 4th round
Thomas Larkin- Columbus Blue Jackets, 2009 5th round
Anthony Hamburg- Minnesota Wild, 2009 7th round

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Of the players on the professional list, most of them signed as free agents including the two currently in the National Hockey League.

Draft picks
Mark Dekanich, 5th round, 2006 - Nashville
David McIntyre, 5th round, 2006 - Dallas
Joey Mormina, 9th round, 2002 - Philadelphia
Kyle Wilson, 9th round, 2004 - Minnesota
Erkki Rajamaki, 8th round, 1999 - Tampa Bay

Of the incoming players, I believe Wagner and Wilson are listed on 2010 draft lists.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

He was ranked among the top five goalies in the USHL on the Central Scouting Bureau's Fall 2009 list for the 2010 draft. However, a check of the most current list on the NHL's Central Scouting web site does not show him listed but that doesn't rule him out altogether.

Wagner is listed at 136.Wilson is not listed either though he was a "C" prospect on the Jr. A/U.S. Prep Players To Watch list put out by the CSS in the fall.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

GR,
Cornell blog is talking about a Colgate vs Cornell game at the Rock in New Jersey on Thanksgiving weekend. Says that Cornell is replacing their BU MSG game that was played on Thanksgiving weekend the last 3 years with this game. What do you know? Whose home game will this be? I have to assume it will be Cornell's because of their prior games at MSG. If this is the case what happens to the Robert Morris games that you show scheduled on the blog that same weekend? Also what happens to the Cornell vs Colgate home and home on the 21st and 22nd of January?

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Just went through the USHL draft from the past couple of days and didn't see Joey Wilson's name. Anybody have any idea if he is already on some USHL teams protected list or where he is planning on playing next year?

The note on here made its' way over to eLynah and then from eLynah said blogger wrote his post. I still haven't spoken with anyone to confirm this.

BTW, Wilson might be going to the BCHL like Bartliff and Smith did before him as opposed to the USHL.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Thanks for the info on Joey Wilson. I think the BCHL is a better fit for Wilson than the USHL, I hope he goes that way. An offensive league for a highly skilled forward.

Sorry, didn't know the Cornell vs Colgate game over Thanksgiving was a circular post.

No Colgate commits were taken in the USHL draft however Bryan Sinz, brother of Nathan, was.

Some blogger wrote a post about it too here - gogatehockey.blogspot.com

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Yes it looks like it's true. Plan on being at the Rock in NJ for a Cornell game the Saturday night of Thanksgiving weekend. Doesn't look like Cornell fans are too happy but too bad. See Article below.

Cornell to Play Colgate in... Newark

After selling out Madison Square Garden in 2007 and 2009 for highly anticipated Thanksgiving weekend match-ups with Boston University, Cornell hockey will be moving slightly south this fall to play Colgate at the Prudential Center in Newark.

It's easy to see the logic here. Cornell's two games with BU have been sellouts, highly profitable for both schools and for the venue. Cornell and Colgate have substantial alumni bases (as well as student fans) in the NYC area. And Cornell certainly earns more money over Thanksgiving by sending the team to play in a big arena instead of shipping them (via Canada) to North Dakota for two games, as they did in 2008. Perhaps Athletics is trying to start an annual tradition of Thanksgiving hockey games in the NYC area. It is anticipated that Cornell and BU will face off in MSG again in 2011.

However, this is a disappointing decision in terms of hockey. The Cornell-BU rivalry is fueled by all of those years in the 1970s and 1980s when the two teams battled for supremacy in the ECAC. Moreover, both Cornell and BU have continued to battle for their respective conference titles and NCAA appearances in the years since. Colgate, aside from its geographic proximity to Cornell, is a mediocre hockey program with little emotional significance to Cornell fans. (OUCH!)

Over the past few years, Cornell has had the misfortune several times of playing ECAC teams in a neutral venue. In December, Cornell lost to Princeton in Florida in a terrible game. The previous year, they tied Colgate in Florida. The previous year, they tied Clarkson in Florida.

The key is this: as an Ivy team with a responsibility to schedule home games to earn revenue, Cornell has few opportunities to leave Ithaca to play a significant non-conference game. The few high-level non-conference opponents over the last couple of years, such as North Dakota, BU, and UNH, have provided entertaining hockey and a good challenge for the Big Red. You don't want to waste these opportunities by playing mediocre teams which you play twice each year anyway.
(OUCH OUCH!)
Assuming the Red Raiders once again finish in the middle of the ECAC and fail to qualify as a Team Under Consideration, this matchup has little benefit to Cornell. Winning or losing this game in Newark isn't going to have much of an impact on Cornell's season.

I really hope that Cornell was trying to schedule a big game for Thanksgiving -- maybe Boston College, or Northeastern (as was rumored), or another eastern team with a lot of NYC alumni -- but that the arrangement fell through and they had to turn to Colgate. Given the scope of the opportunity, the result is disappointing.

Update: After thinking some more, there is a way this may work to Cornell's advantage. If the Big Red consider the Newark game to be their "home" game against Colgate, and they move the game in Hamilton to a Tuesday (as was done this past year), that frees up a weekend on the schedule. Cornell could bring in (or travel to) a quality opponent at that time, or else have more flexibility to schedule some sort of home-and-home across two different weekends. But this is probably just wishful thinking on my part.

So Shabby...answer this question. Do we play Cornell 3 times this year? I think we do. Also need to scratch the Robert Morris trip for that weekend that GR has on the Colgate Blog site.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

There is a rumor that Patrick Kane may transfer to Colgate in 2012....yuk-yuk! The Blackhawks speed and puck control were all over the Flyers last night. Hope we can see the Red Raiders duplicate the Hawks play in '10-'11.....:D

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

When will the official schedule be released? A couple of in coming classes and schedules have already been released on ECAC hockey.com.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

The NHL schedule was released today and the Devils are home on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (day of the rumored Colgate-Cornell tilt in Newark) with a game against the Flyers. Right now, that game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
