The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.
Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar.
We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.
It's gotta be Starbucks out here on the left coast. We are off to NY next weekend and I hope to find some Tims doughnut holes and a strong dark coffee.
Have a beef on Timmy. I was in southern Ontario this summer. U S dollar was at a premium to Canadian dollar. Timmy charged me for US funds five percent! In all it was a 13% swing as I recall when it should have been money back to me. Yikes! I made a fuss but discount was encoded in the cash register from the home office, it appeared. Soooo busy (Gananoque.) Then I got the 'sob' stories from all the gang in line how Canadians can't even spend their (Canadian) money in the states! U S merchants won' t take it at any price. No more border reciprocity? How about Holidays?

If you use a timmy card you get the straight exchange. I use mine on both sides of the border. I live near a cross border town were there are always at par deals to be had. You just gotta look for the right places.

Actually, it's true...usually you can't use Canadian money at all in the States, even near the border.
At least Timmy's offers the option, though charging a big premium for the convenience. The same is true for Timmy's in the US. This past weekend, I was at one in NY State. Noticed the exchange discount was 20% for the Canadian dollar....despite the fact the Canadian dollar closed on Friday higher than the US buck.
So sad to hear the New England stores are closing.
While we are on the subject, has anyone else noticed that the Timmy's lids in the US are SOOO much better than the Canadian ones. Either the Canadian supplier has changed in the last year, or they have cheapened the product, because now when you tear back the lip, it doesn't stick on the tab properly anymore. They suck. The American lids are still perfect....tempted to bring back a few every time I go down to the States to replace the substandard ones back home.
Maybe we should all send letters to head office asking that they change to the US lid supplier/specs.
As I said before, use your Canuck timmy card at the US timmy locations. You get the straight exchange rate, better than the x-change rate you get on a Canuck based credit card.
Secondly, as a person that spends a lot of time in a border town, plenty of Canuck at par deals on the US side. I tank up at the border on the US side, everytime I head down for a trip and on the way back. Many places take CDN dollars at par, cash only. Saves me $10 bucks a tank everytime.
I respectfully disagree. If the conversation is about coffee, it belongs here. If it's about whoopie pies, it belongs in the Whoopie Pie thread. The American-Canadian thread is a catch all for all other nonsensical differences between us normal people in the states, and our whacked out friends to the North.
