Coaching Changes - 2011 Offseason Edition

Re: Coaching Changes - 2011 Offseason Edition

You hear of quite a few changes within Pro teams throughout the summer. Usually at lower levels. Something might have fallen in his lap and as mentioned, the salary differential even at lower levels within the Prof. Org. can be 10-20% higher. Not sure when their players start showing up but not the best time for change . If he was planning for a change or it was driven by the school, you would think it would have occured in the spring.... so maybe an unanticipated opportunity. Best wishes for everyone involved including the girls and new staff.

Interesting development. The options for young female players keep expanding.

Is this D1, D3 or Club ?

While on that NCAA jobs site, noticed that there are still a few assistant job openings posted.

Weidner Hired As Assistant Coach
9/26/2011 1:30:00 PM

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - Niagara women's hockey head coach Josh Sciba has announced the hiring of Allysen Weidner as an assistant coach for the Purple Eagle women's hockey team.

"We are excited to have Allysen coming to us from Hamilton College," Sciba said. "She's a young coach with a great passion for the game. We'll look for her to inject that passion and work ethic into our team. With her skill set, knowledge and recruiting background, she will help our players become better on and off the ice."

Weidner will be in charge of team travel, while assisting in recruiting, academics, strength & conditioning, community service and video breakdowns.

Weidner spent the 2010-11 season with NCAA Division III Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. as an assistant coach, after a four-year career with the RPI Engineers. While at RPI, the Wichita, Kansas native scored 30 goals, 35 assists and 65 points in 141 games.

Lucy Schoedel from Wesleyan to Brown as an AC. Sure hope Brown has it right...the NESCAC can't take much more of this...

I know this has been touched on before, but I love the job Coach Nate Handrahan is doing with our women's program at Ohio State. He has turned out to be a very good hire. I think Ohio State is going to surprise some people this season.

Did Minnesota ever fill their assistant coach position? Did I miss the memo?

In other news, the new coach, Coach MacDonald, seems to be fitting in quite nicely at UMD. Reports are that the team enjoys him and he seems to bring a good balance to the coaching staff.
