Re: climate change times are a changin'

Sounds like they are killing themselves, actually. That is, unless you consider policies that allow drug companies to push addictive Rx analgesics while simultaneously defunding mental health to be the root of the problem.

Voting for policies which increases inequality, force more of them into poverty, cut the programs which could allow them to get out, all while also cutting medical and mental health services and transferring the burden of taxation from the wealthy to the middle class. Yeah, but they really stuck it to Blacky McWelfare Queen, though, so I guess it was worth it.

My god, the oligarchs had these morons' number all along. :(

Re: climate change times are a changin'

There are all sorts of problems when you build next to the ocean. Hurricanes being the biggest but not the only problem.

Portland, Maine - a city that has been around for a few hundred years, has tons of problems with flooding now that it didn't in the past. Any time there is heavy rain combined with high tide, some streets are underwater. One developer that is planning a new project with ~800 apartments and a parking garage is also spending millions of their own dollars to raise the street is on a few feet so it doesn't flood every time it rains.

Like that is going to do any good, a few years from now He'll have to raise the street again

Years of Living Dangerously is a great series. It boggles my mind that American conservatives are the only holdouts on the entire freaking planet.

FL did this too. Freedom means you get to vote on facts!

I can't wait til they pass a statute that the Earth is 6000 years old. At least all the fossil fuels will vanish.

In all honesty, I cannot see how anyone with a college education can be a Republican now. High schoolers, OK, especially if they were homeschooled. But come on, son.

1. When mommy & daddy are rich enough to be single-issue tax voters.
2. When mommy & daddy are religious enough to be single-issue abortion/sex-ed voters.

That's pretty much the basis for the College Republicans.

Those both make sense. Don't forget the GUNZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ single issue voters, either, although the Venn Diagram with them doesn't overlap college much (nor for that matter do the Fundies).

I used to think those guys never made it to college, but over the years my prejudices have been proven wrong.

One of my best friends is gay (super cliche to say, I know ) and atheist, but also a 2nd Amendment nut. The most masculine, poorly dressed, least stereotypical gay man I've known. However, he's a big-L Libertarian, even years after we graduated from MTU.

I just returned from a briefing for Communication Directors where the following information was provided. These restrictions are effective immediately and will remain in place until further direction is received from the new Administration’s Beach Team. Please review this material and share with all appropriate individuals in your organization. If anyone on your staff receives a press inquiry of any kind, it must be referred to me so I can coordinate with the appropriate individuals in OPA.

No press releases will be going out to external audiences.
No social media will be going out. A Digital Strategist will be coming on board to oversee social media. Existing, individually controlled, social media accounts may become more centrally controlled.
No blog messages.
The Beach Team will review the list of upcoming webinars and decide which ones will go forward.
Please send me a list of any external speaking engagements that are currently scheduled among any of your staff from today through February.
Incoming media requests will be carefully screened.
No new content can be placed on any website. Only do clean up where essential.
List servers will be reviewed. Only send out critical messages, as messages can be shared broadly and end up in the press.

I will provide updates to this information as soon as I receive it.

Nice, ay. I posted reference to that in POTUS earlier. It cannot be posted enough.

I just saw that. Sorry.

I agree. This is scary stuff. It's not just a a camouflaged anti-science behavior anymore. It's outright defunding of education and science. I just don't get it.
