Re: Climate Change 2: Thank God for Global Warming

The Hennepin County library system is fantastic and I went to one a few different branches often when still in MN. Nice thing is you can order CDs or books from home, they'll ship to your location of choice and email you when it's ready for pickup. On top of that their CD catalog is nothing short of amazing.

Yeah, I pick up materials ordered online through the interlibrary loan system two times a week, minimum. It really is a treasure.

Most librarians I know are internet experts -- they know the good and bad points of all the browsers, they know about obscure databases that don't necessarily show up on searches, they can help with search strategies, etc.

Deniers: Climate Change is a hoax!

Me: Evidence?

Deniers: Well, I have this unsourced, unreferenced YouTube video, or a link from World Net Daily!

Me: Sigh..

“Polar bears are built for a feast-or-famine type of eating,” said Elisabeth Kruger, an arctic wildlife program officer with the World Wildlife Fund. ....

One would have to do “a lot of specific investigating” to determine the cause of suffering for a particular polar bear, Ms. Kruger said, but what is captured in Mr. Nicklen’s photo “is one of the ways polar bears die.”

Polar bears have no natural enemies (except their own kind).
They are the apex predator of their realm.
And they die.

Re: Climate Change 2: Thank God for Global Warming

"When it comes to violence and death, nature is not G rated by any stretch of the imagination.

If you’ve spent time outdoors, you understand that red fox will efficiently kill plenty of hen ducks keeping watch over a nest. Cormorants will eat many fish. There is no doctor to prevent disease, and battles against the elements can mean slow and painful deaths for the weak and the frail. Visible events, such as a deer falling through the ice while attempting to cross a lightly frozen river, are etched in our minds.

These types of occurrences do not form a pretty picture, but they are part of nature’s fascinating cycle of predator and prey and animal against environment.

Have many people read about Cape Town? It’s shocking that a large, rich city like that could just run out of water. I’m surprised the story isn’t getting more attention. Maybe as ‘day zero’ approaches it will.

It's been in all the major newspapers already. If you're expecting it to hit the American Idol crowd, well, I've been on this rock for 36 years and mass media coverage has never covered foreign affairs outside of wars involving American soldiers.

Yeah it’s getting covered well in the sources I read.
