Clean Up College Hockey!

Re: Clean Up College Hockey!

While assigning cleaning jobs, I forgot a team.

UND can clean out the garage and bring the trash to the street.

Stev's post was amazing. tUMD fans rule.

Re: Clean Up College Hockey!

At the (certain) risk of being scorned, I do think they should clamp down on the extra-curricular activity after puck freezings. The shenanigans now are so predictable it's ridiculous. Frankly, I think it's just used as an opportunity to start a fight.

Start with a very low tolerance for players hacking at the goalie after the whistle. That should attenuate the need to "protect" your goalie. Then, when a defender does come in and attack the offensive guy, which happens virtually every time whether warranted or not, he gets 2min. No latitude. When the offensive guy retaliates, he gets two and the original defender gets another 2 (total of 4) unless he rolls up in a fetal position and refuses to continue the pushing and shoving.

Fire away.:o

Re: Clean Up College Hockey!

It's funny this thread was started...this letter was in today's Wi State Urinal's opinion page.

Why is fighting an accepted and expected part of college hockey when it is not accepted in other college sports? Last Friday's UW hockey game against Alaska-Anchorage was loaded with fighting. After watching it, I decided not to watch the Saturday night game.
I have been involved with youth hockey for a long time, (back when I played :D ) and it continues to grow as a youth and high school sport. The fighting adds nothing to the game, but is a distraction and a negative influence on young players as it teaches the wrong behaviors.
If players were removed from the game for fighting or punished with more penalty time, fighting could be reduced. Throw a punch in a college or pro football or basketball game and you could be removed. The NCAA needs to take action to eliminate fighting as an expected and accepted part of college hockey.

Mr Hottmann? Oh really. . I don't think the game was "loaded with fighting". UAA was ******ed and frustrated and took a few punches, but all out fighting? See ya Mr Hottmann.

Re: Clean Up College Hockey!

Yeah, Friday's game wasn't chippy. There were a ton of penalties but I attribute that to the (rookie?) refs calling a horrible game.

Re: Clean Up College Hockey!

I went out to The Ralph for the BC series 6-7 years ago. The Sioux were short a player who had a game DQ for fighting in the previous game. I was appalled to see the fight shown on the big screen 3-4 times during the game and the fans cheering each time.

I say, clean up your own house first and the rest of the world will take care of itself.
Andy Schneider...he beat the * out of that Canadian. :D

And as was mentioned...Schneider squared off with him. There's fighting, then there's the crap Marvin pulled. As I mentioned earlier though, SIM's response here is a gross overreaction, which he does a lot. Some might think this was a fishing expedition.
(The idea that the Gopher football team can become a Big Ten contender makes me laugh)

If you are going to give me negative rep at least have the balls to say who you are.

Fact of the matter is this is a college hockey message board and not A football thread.

Fail.
Did you just accuse yourself of negrepping yourself? :p

Seconded.
I don't know about best, but he certainly wins this thread. :D

Players being severely injured.

Meaningless suspensions.

Poor sportsmanship on display nearly every night.

This behavior and attitude is not tolerated in any other NCAA sport.

Why is it tolerated for hockey?

It is time to clean up the game.

Want to fight? First offense - 5 game suspension. Second offense - season-long suspension.

Checking from behind or intent to injure? First offense - 5 game suspension or twice as long as the injured player is unable to play, whichever is longer. Second offense - season-long suspension.

Start penalizing the tom-foolery that happens after nearly every whistle when the goaltender freezes the puck.

As a Sioux fan, it is inexcusable what happened to Bina a few years ago, to LaPoint after that and now Genoway. And that is just my team.

Did you ever think it was just the karma coming back to UND for putting such a bunch of goons on the ice to begin with. That's was definitely my first thought, these things are happening because the other teams players are tired of UND being such a bunch of thugs. Heck, even your own fans beat each other up in the parking lot after almost every game, and some UND player always needs to be bailed out of jail.

Maybe if the Sioux put stop signs on the back of their jersey's like some youth teams he wouldn't of got hit from behind....

I have seen checking from behind called in instances that definitely don't warrant a game misconduct, let alone a 5 game suspension. When you give mandatory call instructions to referees, you can't give such severe penalties as this. Sometimes players take quick turns, and you see a really bad checking from behind penalty. Slamming the offending player for 5 games is extreme.

Re: Clean Up College Hockey!

It is time to clean house in college hockey. Judging by some of the neantherdahls on the board, the fans need to be weeded out as well. Sadists have no place in society.

The game of hockey is a beautiful thing to behold; superior skating, stickhandling, intricate passing, pin-point shooting. There is NO room for thuggery. There is room for legitimate body checking.

Suspend the thugs for 5 games and the game will miraculously be much more enjoyable to watch and much safer to play.

All you X-game, MMA hockey thugs can start your own league. Perhaps Dave Schulz, Derek Boogard and Charles Manson can be your league executives.

This guy seems confused. If there is actual fighting, the players are removed. Oh well.

Me like hockey. Now me going to let husband drag me around by hair and hit with club, because me neanderthal. Me no see thugs in college hockey. Me think if Siouxinminny had his way, UND would have no one on the ice with all the suspensions.

People like you are the reason for all that stupid clutching and grabbing by the ivy league weirdos. Let them get their problems out on the ice, kick them out for the night (none of this BS game DQ), let the fans feel like the money they paid to watch their team was well spent, and everyone's happy.
