Clarkson & St. Lawrence @ RPI & Union (1/7, 1/8)

Re: Clarkson & St. Lawrence @ RPI & Union (1/7, 1/8)

I still remember when we put together a skeleton band for a Union women's weekend during winter break, and also a Thanksgiving game.

It's been said many times before - the pep bands over the last few years just don't seem to have as much dedication or interest. It's sad, especially now that the team is on its rapid ascension.

Re: Clarkson & St. Lawrence @ RPI & Union (1/7, 1/8)

I talked with RHamilton last night, and he will be contacting the right people to ask if RPITV can stream these (RPI) games. I will let everyone know how that goes and if necessary, who to send an email to share you opinions about B2 / RPITV to.
Any news / update / request for us, the viewers, to do anything?

Big win by the saints tonight....this is shaping up to be an interesting weekend...looking forward to some good hockey.

We're waiting to hear back from Athletics about this weekend.

Kevin Beattie (beattk@rpi.edu), RPI's Sports Information Director, is the probably the best person to share your opinions about Video Streaming. Feel free to CC or BCC rpitv@union.rpi.edu with your comments.

I'm a freshman, so I can't say anything on the last few years, but I know it's been strange this year since the stage is gone, and we're up in the rafters of section 13. Regardless of whether Pep Band has been lacking interest, it was the highlight of my first semester at RPI and really the only reason I got at all interested in hockey. :)

Glad you are here-stick with RPI hockey and you will become addicted like the rest of us. Addicted? No I think more like certifiable.:p

I suspect that it has been mentioned before, but is the stage at the east end of the HFH eventually coming back?

...having the band ON STAGE was one of the things I fell in love with my first game. The excitement it created was tremendous. Sadly, those who make decisions today don't seem to understand any of this. It's much more important to create "the Pulpit" overlooking the little people below. By the way, can that construction go any slower....it's embarassing, as an RPI supporter, to walk into the HFH after a couple of weekends off and see what little if any progress had been made....yes, it does ..ss me off

I haven't heard much recently, but it was outside of the HFH during construction with the rest of the trash. After games, I usually go out the East end, and I haven't seen it over there since.

several weeks ago I noticed the stage sections against the north wall

Re: Clarkson & St. Lawrence @ RPI & Union (1/7, 1/8)

Yes, the stage will return after construction is completed. It is being used as a staging area for the various trades.

Construction is going very slow because the building has been in use during a lot of it. It is also a massive, old, neglected building that has had a lot of problems pop up.

Well, I don't know how fair what we have been saying is. When I was with the band, any "lack of interest" was during the season and because the teams weren't necessarily doing so hot. However, there was a dedicated group of us that would play consistently and throughout the year. Also, most of that "skeleton" group of 10 of us were either local or semi-local (either we had an apartment in Troy, or were close enough we could just drive there on a whim and make a day trip out of it).

A couple other things to realize: The second semester now starts a week later than when I went to RPI. Also, they've cut down the number of "open dorm days" before classes start (my freshman year it was Wednesday, I think MAYBE also sophomore year, but by junior year, the dorms didn't open until the Friday before classes start, so you had 6 hours to get everything in your dorm set back up, grab instruments, and get up to the Field House). Also, at least one of the officers was local, so we could actually get something planned. That's pretty important as well. ;)

We're very appreciative of every pep band member's interest, because that's what uniquely separates us from, say, an AHL or Major Junior team. Keep up the good work.

I stand corrected. Not that I had scoliosis in the first place ;)

Think I got on wrong posting....thought this one was about the weekend games :)

How did Presy look last week? Does it look like his thumb healed up well, or should SLU and CCT not be concerned about him?

Re: Clarkson & St. Lawrence @ RPI & Union (1/7, 1/8)

Entering this week, the USCHO poll has RPI ranked 10th and Union 15th.

RPI owes their lofty ranking to their performance in out-of-conference games, where they are 8-1-3. In conference play, they are a decidedly more pedestrian 3-3, having had three weekends in which they won one game and the other one fell into the coulda-woulda-shoulda category.

If RPI wants to maintain that lofty ranking, continuing to split two games each weekend just isn't going to cut it. They are going to have to start getting some sweeps. And this weekend, with two home games against our longtime North Country rivals, would be a splendid time to start.

Of course, our longtime North Country rivals would probably like nothing better than to demonstrate that the two best college hockey teams in New York State do not necessarily both reside in the Capital District.

And if they want to demonstrate that point by beating up on Union, that'll be OK with me. ;)
