CHN Tweets new D-III program announced on Friday

Re: CHN Tweets new D-III program announced on Friday

...it's 65 miles south of Rochester and Buffalo.;)
I would point out that if Houghton is SSE of Rochester, it would be South of Rochester and Oswego. It would also be closer to Horseheads than if it was SSW of Ra cha cha

Err... typo, my bad. I knew it was South-by-SouthWEST, but the E happens to be right next to the W :P

They currently sponsor 13 women's sports and 10 men's sports.
Colors: Purple & Gold

Nazareth also has petitioned the ECAC West Division to join that conference. Elmira, Hobart, Manhattanville, Neumann and Utica are current members.

Men's ice hockey will be Nazareth’s 24th intercollegiate team. The Golden Flyers are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and recently won the Division III national championship in men's volleyball.

Re: CHN Tweets new D-III program announced on Friday

So whats this mean for ECAC-W? Becomes a viable conference again?

Assuming Utica stays and Canton also joins - or a realignment (such as Morrisville) then they would be at the 7 teams needed for an AQ.

Re: CHN Tweets new D-III program announced on Friday

Wow, shows how much I know.

I think it'll be a good addition to the ECAC West. Naz is very similar to Elmira in size and academics, with Naz having a little better athletic program. It would be nice if Utica decides to stay in the ECAC West now, with Canton or possibly another school joining eventually to make the conference get an auto-bid. I'm assuming this is one of the schools Russell had said he heard of exploring adding a team.

Re: CHN Tweets new D-III program announced on Friday

Nazareth College search for a coach begins immediately with former St. Cloud State coach Craig Dahl leading the search committee and the program's formation. Seems like alot of thought has already gone into the planning and Naz is doing it right!

Re: CHN Tweets new D-III program announced on Friday

Outstanding news.

Just got to hope that Utica will stay put now and Canton can be added in the near future.

Re: CHN Tweets new D-III program announced on Friday

I told you that Nazareth would not be announcing a hockey team on Friday! :D

Gee, I wonder who will be announcing on Friday? My money still says it will be SJF or nobody.

Re: CHN Tweets new D-III program announced on Friday

That logic has been used to start FB at several schools looking to increase male enrollment

Yep, its a pretty easy way to increase your enrollment by about a hundred kids. Might not be that big of a bump at some schools percentage wise, but if you've got an enrollment thats say, under 4,000, then it does change things around on campus.

When it comes to their athletic programs, Nazareth always tends to do it right.

If you want a case study on how to move from an all women school to a co-ed school, using sports as a means to attract male students, Nazareth would be it.

Since some of us knew who it was off the record, we couldn't say anything. But, it sure made it enjoyable watching some of the predictions being made here. :D ;)
