build up of news i hadn't had time to distill into a post, so here's a big dump:
Kelowna GM came out with this
bizarre interview. i can break it down if you want but this isn't a good look. the most immediate wtf moment from it is saying "adapting is no longer optional" and then spends the rest of the article detailing how they won't be adapting. If i were a rockets fan id be concerned.
few of my reported happenings have been confirmed- Fiddler has committed to DU, the
Oil Kings announced it themselves which I think is a great show of support in contrast to whatever Kelowna is doing. The other one is Scantlebury joining the Remparts.
however, the Remparts are losing D Charlie Morrison. UConn reporters were told he was coming this year, their GM was asked about it during the Scantlebury press conference and said they weren't sure in a statement, but today they had a similar thank you tweet for Morrison.
we're also seeing a trickle of american signings in the QMJHL, some significant talents from the prep school ranks. that area is a gold mine for the Q now that the rule change is in, like how minnesota hs is with the W.
there is a trend of franchises announcing if a player is coming back or not, which we have also seen from some college teams. Saint John has announced that
Alexander Donovan- one of those prep school free agent kids- will be back for another year. He's a DU commit and was originally expected to arrive this season. Huge boost for Saint John.
Part of why DU might be ok deferring a forward like Donovan is another speculated move- Prince Albert's Max Heise appears to have decommitted from Michigan State and the landing spot should be Denver. He's had a breakout season moving to the WHL.
...and part of why Michigan State is ok losing a forward like Heise is that Windsor's Ethan Belchetz is likely to end up with them. He's a projected top-15 draft pick this year, and hes Big. 6'5, 227. college should help him figure out how to use his frame. he got injured right before the playoffs but is very close to return. he won't commit until after their playoffs end, which could be as soon as tomorrow.
