CHL to NCAA Recruiting Megathread

07 F Shawn Carrier commits to BU, Halifax Mooseheads alternate captain will arrive in 2027.

Joe Gramer transfers to Bemidji State. He left Omaha in winter to play with the Seattle Thunderbirds. Had a very scary injury during it but was able to get back quickly.

First of all, thank you for all the info over the course of the year. Any thoughts on Carrier?

you're welcome :)

great get, one of the more productive players in the QMJHL and a standout player on a young team. Halifax was beginning a rebuild last year and paid two picks plus one of the top overage players on the market (Quinnipiac's Vidicek) to Moncton for him. his second season w the Mooseheads, he still didn't have a ton of help around him but he ended up with 65 points in 61 games, 2nd on the team. lead them in goals with 37. if he gets more talent around him, he could push for 40.

i think 2027 is the right arrival date for him, mainly with decision making and just rounding out his skills. not a lot of kids come out of junior with the physicality he has in his game. he can use it well, but he also got 75 penalty minutes and was suspended for 2 games in march. one scouting report used the word manic to describe his game- just a lot of speed and aggressive forechecking, the skill is rounding out still but it's there.

not just me, but other people in the QMJHL/college hockey sphere like this pickup. i think considering what the terriers lacked this year, he's the right guy to target.

What are your thoughts on Voronin?

lol what a bloodline. Sad that he is going to BU but oh well.
not just one side of the family or just hockey- his mom is the sister of NBA great Steve Nash, she was a soccer star in college

What are your thoughts on Voronin?
Plenty of thoughts on Voronin. I watch a lot of Moncton for Teddy Mutryn.

he's been on the top line for stretches with Desnoyers but not always, and the team is so deep it doesn't mean all that much. shot and speed were immediate impacts. his playmaking has grown a lot over the year and like a lot of other players the Moncton system has been great for him.

his biggest drawback all year is, er, he's pretty passionate. fiery guy. 71 PIM in 58 games sorta fiery. majority of the games he missed was a 5-game suspension for abuse of official. during that suspension the cats definitely missed him. sometimes he gets in his own way. he's a good guy and he's calmed down more, i think it will improve just with maturity. there was a particularly intense... post-game line brawl? two days ago, and he wasn't an aggressor at all, which is a good sign for his ability to regulate.

and as I am typing this, Voronin just set up a great goal in the playoffs. he started the rush and found Teddy crashing the net.

solid bet he will come in next year instead of staying in junior for another season since he would take up an overage and import spot.

Looks like 07 D Blake Fiddler is likely to commit to DU, Kraken 2nd round pick and son of former NHLer Vernon. currently on Edmonton Oil Kings

Shawinigan exit press conference news dump-

leaving for NCAA: Félix Lacerte (UVM), Jiri Klima (Bemidji State), D Félix Plamondon, F Kody Dupuis

Look out for commits from the last two soon. Dupuis is the son of former NHLer Pascal, Plamondon was named Top Defensive Defenseman in the Q this year. I would guess he ends up in Hockey East.

Northeastern commit Cole Chandler will be traded to Cape Breton, probably at the draft.

Another interesting note: Simon Gagné has a press conference scheduled for tomorrow. Speculation is that this is about 1st round pick in the 2025 QMJHL Draft James Scantlebury signing with the Remparts. 09 F is a BU commit and plays with Chicago Steel in the USHL. If he hadn't tendered with them he might've been a potential 1st overall pick. further rumors have Carter Meyer coming as well, but that would be a later announcement.

I am super excited to see him in a Maine sweater. He has Maine Black Bear written all over him.

4/27 recap

QMJHL:
Mon 6-2 BLB, Mon leads 2-1, Mutryn (BC) 1g2a, Bleyl (Michigan State) 3a, Tournas (UNH) 2a, Guimond (Harvard) 24 saves on 26 shots

OHL:
WSR 4-2 KIT, KIT leads 2-1, Davis (UConn) 2a, Fibigr (OSU) 1g, Robinson (Providence) 1g

WHL:
EVT 4-3 PEN, EVT leads 3-0, Wehmann (Cornell) 2a, Shantz (SCSU) 1g, Weber (Penn State) 1g, Stevenson (SCSU) 1g

Kitchener didn't start on time, BLB had a meltdown in the 2nd. Penticton is about to be swept despite hanging with the top team in the league. The top two point leaders in the WHL playoffs are on a team that has already been eliminated (Prince George)

Everett is the first team to be 1 win from the finals, which stinks for people who like being able to actually see/hear what is going on in their feeds. Their video/audio setup is just atrocious. Most WHL rinks updated with the victory plus transition, but Everett still looks and sounds like dog crap. they should consider investing all this playoff revenue into fixing that
