CHL to NCAA Recruiting Megathread

Hey Cinn question. Xavier Cormier UNH recruit was playing just about every game and had some nice totals for a 16-17 year old defensemen 6-11-17 +16. He then stopped playing completely was he injured?

did some spelunking in the french side of things, i think it is just the fact that he's a young offensive defenseman and the coach has him on a short leash. not uncommon for that type of player. the fans seemed to think he deserved more runway. if there were any injuries it isn't reported.

he'll get a bigger role next year

4/6 recap:

Que 4-2 Cha, series tied 3-3, Loiselle (UVM) 1g1a, Morrison (UConn) 1g1a, Quinn (Northeastern) 2a, Campbell (Maine) 1g1a

QMJHL comes through with 3 game 7s

SAS 3-2 EDM in OT, Saskatoon wins, Calvert (Maine) gwg 1a, Williams (NoDak) 1g1a, Sotheran (Omaha) 2a

bit of an upset, 6th seed knocks out the 3rd seed. all the matchups are now set in the WHL.

some news items-

two of the better freshmen on this years Mercyhurst team (not named Charles-Edward Gravel) were the twins Jacob and Andrew Leblanc, it was suspected they would be targets in the portal. Lindenwood grabs both, solid adds for Fisher. still curious where Gravel ends up, i'd imagine he has some options

OA D Mazden Leslie commits (again) to BGSU. He was meant to enroll last summer until Mem Cup host Kelowna traded for his rights. Luke Schenn called to help talk him into staying for the season. I figured the commitment could be reengaged esp since BGSU's coach Williams was the Silvertips coach not too long ago- he knows how much a Mem Cup means to these guys more than other coaches.

4/7 recap:

Que 1-0 Cha, nothing from any commits because it was so low event... Campbell (Maine) had 4 shots? during 2nd intermission they had Ferris State assistant coach Justin DeMartino on for an interview, Islanders OA Nathan Leek is one of their top recruits. Talked about the changing landscape and developing relationships with CHL teams, gave a little intro on the school.
Sha 6-1 She, Lacerte (UVM) 2g, ballsy of Sherbrooke to pull Labbé with 10:27 left down by 4, so ENG comes at 12:11
Rou 5-0 Gat, Brunelle (Canisius) 3g, Verdon (BGSU) 1g, Meloche (Northeastern) 20 save shutout.

results were all pretty obvious quick besides i suppose Quebec, but Déniger didn't feel like letting in a goal tonight so it felt inevitable by the end. first game in the Sha/She series the home team won. props to a young spunky Gatineau team to putting the fear of god into the Huskies.

WHL second round preview will come shortly, all game 1s on friday. tbd on QMJHL because no one had their matchups until tonight.

big news, though not unexpected: Mike McMahon reports Landon Dupont is heavily considering NCAA and recruiting process to commit. Like McKenna, he was given exceptional status in the WHL and is the projected 1st overall in 2027. He's an 09 defenseman playing for Everett. early favorites are Michigan and DU
So what you are saying is the person who brings the biggest bag of money gets him, right?

Verdon's goal was a beaut, deflected out of mid-air shoulder high. Puck changed directions at a 45 degree angle.

05 F Ethan Miedema commits to Bemidji State, played for Guelph this year, 5 seasons between Windsor, Kingston, and Guelph. 23 4th round pick by Buffalo. Basically just a steady player his entire career, never fully lit it up but he holds the record of 3rd most OHL regular season games played with 335. Also he's 6'4. Definitely one of the OAs I was keeping an eye on to see where he ended up.

Thanks, was just looking to see if you had the low down on Ethan.

Thanks, was just looking to see if you had the low down on Ethan.
all reports are he’s a great kid. Guelph brought him in as a veteran presence for a very young team. they’re focused on next year since they’re hosting the Mem Cup so he was kinda on his own after the deadline- esp when they were only dressing three forward lines for the last few games due to a bajillion injuries. during his OHL career he raised funds for cancer research- his mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when he was 7. and he even does research for his chirps :-) the next game he got into his first fight w the same guy (yes that is Lindenwood’s Jacob Leblanc)

4/8 recap

BFD 8-1 NB, BFD leads 1-0, Malhotra (BU) 2g1a, Dennis (Michigan) 1g, Harper (Michigan) 1g

just a no-nonsense methodical slaughtering by the Bulldogs

4/9 recap

QMJHL:
NFL 4-1 BLB, NFL leads 1-0, Laberge (Northeastern) 3a, Larose (Michigan) 1g, Pilote (UMass) 1g, Desjardins (Omaha) 1g.

Newfoundland showed up, Armada didn't- both the team and fans. BLB avoids scheduling games when the Habs play because they're the closest Q team to Montreal, but the scheduling quirks of getting to Newfoundland forced a game tonight

OHL:
BAR 4-2 OTT, BAR leads 1-0, Zebeski (UNH) 1g, Wilmott (OSU) 1g, Vandenberg (Providence) 1g

probable suspension watch on David Bedkowski for a boneheaded spear at the end of the 2nd period

06 F Jiří Klíma commits to Bemidji State, plays for Shawinigan Cataractes. Another win for Vaclav Nestrasil Sr's master plan to get as many members of the 2026 Czech World Junior teams to college as possible. That team notably played their preliminary games at the Sanford Center, evidently it made a good impression. In a 1st round series where some of the Cataractes top scorers didn't produce, he was by far the most impactful player throughout, 8 points in 7 games.

07 D Quinn Beauchesne commits to Boston College, plays for Guelph. 5th round pick by the Penguins, fairly high pedigree guy. Could've gone higher in the draft if not for some significant injuries his draft year plus being only 6 foot.

Signing an ATO for AHL games before you've began your NCAA career does not compromise your eligibility immediately, but signing longer term pro contracts do. Two guys who were committed but signed pro contracts- PA's Christensen (Omaha) and BDN's Mistelbacher (Maine). For undrafted kids, there's usually no way you aren't taking an AHL/NHL deal when it's offered. Even for drafted kids who aren't super high-end guys. Takes a lot of balls to defer it in order to go somewhere new (as opposed to not coming out of college yet), only guy I know to have done so is Luke Misa.
