CHL to NCAA Recruiting Megathread

Wanted to share this section of today's 32 Thoughts podcast for a very concise and broad evaluation from Friedge on the CHL/NCAA panic going on. His cohost Kyle Bukauskas is a little less objective since his brother works for the WHL, but he mentions a few interesting points himself.

There's a lot of doom and gloom going around the CHL landscape after the Reschny/Verhoeff news. I can do a greater breakdown of why and what is being said if anyone wants, maybe like this post if you would be interested.

The comparative paucity of CHL kids committing to the Ivies will almost certainly mean pretty lean times for those schools. 😞
Quinnipiac and Clarkson have loaded up on CHL recruits. Colgate has a few too. I expect Quinnipiac and Clarkson to have strong years next year.

Happens when people aren’t prepared academically to try to get in, which has always been a concern for the Ivies even before the rule change. One thing i think the Ivies are definitely benefiting from is players going to CHL from their junior teams and getting better competition. G Rudy Guimond (Yale) had an insane run with Moncton, who won the QMJHL championship.

feels like they just haven’t focused on it all that much. there’s a few teams that havent.

in related news, Gopher commit Mace-o Phillips is reportedly spending another year in juniors after NTDP and spoke on a podcast about his two potential landing spots- Green Bay or Portland Winterhawks. i really like the Portland organization and seems like they’re very supportive of their players going to NCAA, even early.

Fortune favors the bold, although the Ivies academic entrance requirements may essentially "price" them out of the CHL market. Unfortunately, I predict that the ECAC will become a bit more bi-modal over the next few seasons. Will be interesting nonetheless.

A lot of the desireable US recruits will be headed to the CHL making it the premier league that feeds NCAA, which has been USHL for a while. So I think the Ivies will have no choice if they want to compete. I do see two for Princeton, and one for Cornell. They may be late to the game, but will still get in the game.

Cinnamoroll, do you know if the QMJHL draft this weekend is on live stream for free somewhere?
Looks like round one will be on CHL TV and Eastlink (canadian cable), but reportedly rounds 2-12 will be streamed live on youtube. Might be able to sail the seas to find round one though.

The QMJHL draft is a lot more like the NHL draft, in that they have players and families attend and come on stage after they are picked. There's a report that the OHL is sending some staff members to examine how they do things, which could indicate interest in doing their 1st rounds like this.

also in QMJHL news: Caleb Desnoyers confirms he's planning on staying in Moncton next season, they've named him captain. So no NCAA plans in immediate future.
