Chatham adds men's hockey for 2017-18

Re: Chatham adds men's hockey for 2017-18

What good does it do either conference to keep a scheduling arrangement with Canton and DW if they won't join the conference? If these programs don't improve rapidly they'll be a major drain on strength of schedule...what would be the enticement to keep the arrangement if they don't join as either full members or associate members for hockey?

While Canton did go 0- 0- 0 in their conference ;) - their overall 6-17- 4 wasn't that bad for this stage of their program.

That's why I said IF they don't improve rapidly.

Won't staying without a conference hurt their recruiting? No conference title to fight for, no access to an autobid to the national tourney. Put that on top of having a stupid mascot (grown men playing as the Canton Kangaroos?) and I don't see why good prospects would want to play in Canton, especially if it's a good prospect with the opportunity to play for any of the other D3 schools in that part of the world (Potsdam, Plattsburgh, Middlebury, Norwich, Castleton, Skidmore).

Maybe I'm overthinking it...just don't see how/why it would be feasible for them to stay independent.

If you think Kangaroos are bad, how about down here in the South we're starting a baseball team called the Savannah Bananas!?

"The team logo is a bright yellow banana scowling and holding a bat above its shoulder with lime green and white script font with the team name."

Bananas with shoulders!

Devil's Advocate: What happens if Canton and Daniel Webster both stay independent but with these "scheduling arrangements" with the SUNYAC and NEHC? Those two, plus the WIAC, makes for 7 Pool-B eligible teams. Doesn't that keep Pool B alive and mean the -W's AQ comes at the expense of a Pool C?

Depends on the access ratio. Divide the number of pool A teams by the number of pool A bids. This is the number of teams that Pool B would have to have to get any bids. Since 7 is the minimum number of teams for a pool A bid, the access ratio will be guaranteed to be more than 7. Thus, no Pool B
