Re: CHA Thoughts and Prognostications: Year 11, The Finale...

"Air Force had a chance to close the gap with 3:57 left in the third period when the Falcons pulled their goalie and Alabama-Birmingham took two consecutive penalties. Up six-on-three, the Falcons were repeatedly turned away by Talbot."

A few years ago, one of our PA guys said Alabama-Birmingham also.

Re: CHA Thoughts and Prognostications: Year 11, The Finale...

Anyone check out the AHA standings so far this year? They've started the season out 1-23-0.

I remember that. I got whiplash and a concussion from my head smacking off the table.

Anyone else notice the USAToday poll? Air Force, at 0-4-0, has 3 votes; UAH, fresh off a sweep of the Falcons, and at 3-1-0, has 1. Hmmm...

Re: CHA Thoughts and Prognostications: Year 11, The Finale...

I have to add, as well, that from Paula Weston's article last week, she seemed to indicate that her position was vindicated as to the snub from the CCHA as it was clear to her that the Big 10 was knockin' on the door. HOWEVER, in the same article it was clarified from Minnesota that no such possibility was remotely in play (not to mention from Wisconsin as well). Thus, I am perplexed still as to the interplay and commentary regarding UAH's predicament. As much as I respect Paula's position in the college hockey community, and the fact that she will never speak ill of her conference, I have to say that the entire fiasco is more infuriating than ever now, at least to me. Keep on winning guys! What else can you do now? Needless to say, you have much support from more than just us bloggers.

As I've noted elsewhere, I hate all polls, but I dislike the USA Today one the most...

I actually think she nailed it. Follow the bouncing ball:

Bowling Green is thinking of dropping hockey. Nebraska-Omaha leaves the CCHA for the WCHA. At the same time, the five Big 10 hockey schools are discussing forming the BTHC. Minnesota says no, so Wisconsin takes it's puck and says they're going to the CCHA.

Now, to summerize, the CCHA is faced with (to guestimate, let's say this is all happening around late July/early August) an application from Alabama-Huntsville, a potentially folding Bowling Green, and a possible application from Wisconsin. Now, in the face of this, who can really be surprised that UAH didn't get in?

We can argue 'til we're blue in the face that the CCHA could/should have not taken a vote on UAH, but they did. Hopefully with BGSU solidifying their funding and the BTHC talk settling down (for now), the CCHA can revisit Huntsville in the near future.

edit - and as long as I have another minute here (I'm at work), take any Huntsville/CHA bias out of it, and the CCHA was perfectly reasoned to just wait on UAH just based on BGSU's possible dropping hockey (i.e., the if we take 'em, and BG drops, we're right back at 11). Then you throw Wisconsin on top of everything (does it become a case of UAH or UW? Or UAH and UW with no BG?), well, you can see how sticky a situation it probably was for a while...

FWIW: I am officially changing my UAH pick to a UAH SWEEP of Western.

Niagara and Michigan-Michigan

Bemidji at Northern Michigan-Bemidji Sweeo
Robert Morris at Ferris-Robert Morris Sweep
Western Michigan at Alabama-Huntsville-Alabama-Huntsville Sweep

Man, I really wanted to pick that the CHA would sweep over the state of Michigan, but I just couldn't do it with the Niagara-Michigan game. If Niagara could have finished their games against Clarkson and Colgate, I would have gave them a chance....... Even now, I am picking more with my heart instead of my head, I think???

I gotta give it to the Chargers, they've impressed me. As for my Purple Eagles, they've disappointed me.

* The "eligible" handle is based on picking a sufficient number of games to be eligible for the Monkey at the end of the season. It is based on the 75-game pick minimum (about 79% of the 95 total regular-season games scheduled for CHA teams) and is a sliding scale through the season. If you are on the "NO" list now, just pick more games and you will eventually move to the "YES" list. I will list the eligibility threshold at the beginning of each week.

I had picks, somewhere way back...I went 6-0 too...Trust me... ;)
